Are We Truly Living the Good Friday Message?

So it's GOOD FRIDAY today, an important solemn Christian holiday when we remember the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. Good enough, our government declared this day a public holiday, and many people found themselves in their various churches observing the activities in line with the Easter celebration.

Good Friday is a day when Christians are expected to have a deeper reflection about the sacrifice our Lord Jesus made for us on the cross so we can live. The crucifixion, the sufferings, the beatings, drinking of vinegar, and more, all because of our sins in order to save our souls. I don't know about others, but it is usually a day I reflect personally and deeply about this sacrifice of love because what love is more than a person who laid down his life and faced embarrassment just for my soul to be redeemed?

Reflecting on the seven words of Jesus on the cross today melted my heart the more, but that's not the bone of contention, and just like we have been discussing in the Hive Naija hangout today on the chain, is the essence of this celebration still being preserved by those who observe it?

Like many other of our church members, I spent 8 hours in total today, being Good Friday, observing the activities in my church, where the youth have been acting drama showing the journey of Jesus and his suffering until he finally died on the cross.

While on this journey since morning, I saw some persons crying passionately, seeing how the guy that acted as Jesus was being tormented, ridiculed, beaten up, got naked, and more ...that's a heart breaking down from these persons crying, but then, are we really living our lives to show that his death isn't just symbolic?

Well, I don't think so for many people. A lot of us Christians do it as ceremonial but do not really allow the sacrifice on the cross to have a positive impact on our lives; if not, why does evil keep prevailing? Brothers fighting each other, killings everywhere, friends betraying each other, cheating of all kinds, and more...

I really hope that we humbly reflect genuinely and let the purpose of the death of Jesus make a difference in our lives by striving to live an upright life at all times.

Let Good Friday not just come and go, but let's have a genuine reflection that could change our lives for good and forever and not only during the Easter season.
