LIVE AVERSIONS: PART 1 (Katsaridaphobia)

Hello ever supportive Hivers!
Hope we're doing okay.

Today, I'll be sharing certain aversions or phobias with you. There are quite a number of these phobias so I've decided to break it down into parts. This series is called "live aversions" meaning the dislike of a living thing and is based solely on my personal experiences.

This series starts with katsaridaphobia- The fear of cockroaches!

You know that blood red insect called cockroaches?
I believe that there exist slightly different species with different colors. However, this post is specifically about the red ones.

Several years back, cockroaches to me, were just like any other insect. I neither liked nor disliked them. They were found at different corners of the house and they come out mostly at nights. They were just one of those innocent crawling insects until they gave me the experience of my life!

When I was a teenager in secondary school, I was really committed to reading and having the best grades in class. It was all I thought about. It was what made me feel valuable. I made sure to put more effort than the others in my class. I read every day and especially at midnights when everyone is asleep and everywhere is quiet. Unlike now that I’m an adult, waking up to read wasn’t too big a sacrifice to make. In fact, I looked forward to it every day.

One of those nights, I woke up to read as usual. I was putting on a big pajama and sat down on a comfortable desk to read. After about an hour, I saw a really big cockroach on the wall. Note the “big”. I got a little bit uncomfortable because of the size but I just ignored the feeling and continued with my reading.

Few minutes later, this cockroach flew! I was dumbfounded! Yes, that’s definitely the right word. Cockroach flying?? That’s not even all. Guess where it flew to? On my desk and into the big pajama I was putting on! What?! I was scared to say the least. I never knew until that day that cockroaches could fly!

Nothing could have prepared me for that night’s horror. I tried to remove the pajama and make sure the roach wasn’t on my body anymore. In fear, I started looking for the cockroach around the house, to kill and have my peace of mind back. It was big so it couldn’t have been hard to find. I was just really hoping it doesn’t fly on me again. I searched everywhere but couldn’t find it. Where could it have gone all of a sudden? Disappeared? At this point, I concluded that the cockroach was probably sent by some negative force... Lol

My reasons;

  • It flew! (To my surprise)
  • It flew to my body of all places!
  • I never found it afterwards.

This experience marked the beginning of my cockroach phobia! From that day till this moment that I’m typing this post, I’ve been super scared of roaches. I dislike them and whenever I set my eyes on them, I become very uncomfortable until I’m sure it has been gotten rid of.

I’m not sure how, if or when I’ll ever get over this phobia of mine. I have seen roaches fly after that experience and I understand now that they have wings so it’s only natural for them to fly, but still!

This is one of those experiences I’ll never forget.

What about you?
Are you Katsaridaphobic?
How do you think I can get rid of my phobia?

Thanks so much for reading my post as usual.

See you in the next one!
