Market Friday : A walk in outdoor market.
Hello, my friends as I like to see the markets from all over the world, I decided to join the #MarketFriday by @dswigle and share with you the local outdoor market in my place of residence.
This outdoor market takes place once a week, I just wanted to go through there just to check the products and prices, I could not buy many products as I did not have space to store them until I got home.
In my country Greece and specifically in Crete we are going through the spring season, now let's look at the fruits and vegetables of this season.
Some small flower plants for 0.8-1.00 euros each.
Blitums for 2.50 euros per kilo.
Lemons 0.80 euros per kilo.
Fresh onions 0.40 euros per 3 pieces.
More greens, fresh onions and radishes.
Some organic products.
Lettuce 0.70 euros each.
Cabbage 1.50 euros per kilo.
Tomatoes and cucumbers 2.50 euros per kilo.
More vegetables.
Fresh beans 3.80 euros per kilo.
Potatoes 0.90 euros per kilo.
Fresh strawberries.
Αrtichokes 1.99 euros per kilo.
Local bananas 2.40 euros per kilo.
Some local products like olives, olives oil, spices, local drink (raki), soaps.
Honey 9 euros per kilo.
Finally I bought only 4 pieces of local bananas 2.40 euros per kilo, I paid 1.40 euros.
Next to this market there was a market with clothes but I didn't go there because I was not interested to buy clothes.

Are those white transparent bags of potatoes one kilo each??
How about the bananas 🍌 are they all in one kilo from what I am seeing there?
The bags of potatoes are 5 kilos each.
For the bananas, you have to weigh them firstly, you can cut as many pieces as you want, and then they are weighed, for example, the cost is 2.40 euros/kilo, I bought 4 pieces, after the weighing, I paid 1.40 euros.

Wow.. that's an interesting idea to me about weighing fruits before being bought cause it rarely happens in other parts of the country like here!.
But do you think there has been an inflation in the market or price of recent?
Or perhaps it has been like that for years now.
Of course, there is inflation in prices, in some products a lot and in others a little.
It is not the best idea for the buyer to buy pre-weighed products because he does not have the opportunity to choose each piece separately.
I personally prefer to choose the product the way I want it.
Okay sir.. thank you so much for this great interview ^^

Thanks alot I just hopped in now ^^
I love picking my own fruits and vegetables, I know it is easier on the fruit and the seller if they pre weigh them. Artichokes are such a good deal! They must be in season! I never bought freshly squeezed olive oil in Greece! Next time.
You have brought us to such a wonderful place, lovely to look at. It is scary to see how some of these products have gone up in recent weeks. You hit the nail on the head with prices and everything that goes on in the market! Thank you!
Thank you for being part of #MarketFriday! I am honored.
#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that is these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

I agree, by picking the products you ensure better quality, I prefer to waste a little time or get my hands dirty than to find a rotten potato in the pre weighed bag.
The prices for some products are reasonable but in most they are high. I recently had a shock when I saw the cherries at the price of 12.50 euros/kg.
Really! The price is amazingly expensive. Cherries are always expensive here, I have no idea why, but, they are. Yes, I like to pick my own. I know what I like to eat. :)
Thanks so much for joining #MarketFriday!
