I'm never going to live near the capital.

The house prices there are crazy

Now we were up in Dublin at the weekend for a night out.

Stayed with one of my oldest friends who has an apartment rented in the city. Those prices are bad enough but he is finally buying his own house about an hour outside the city very soon.

€400,000 for a three bed in a tiny village with nothing near it.

Don't get me wrong, the new houses are very nice. There is just no value in them.

They are never going to be worth much more than the sale price and they are in a big estate with no facilities near to them.

It's important to get onto the property ladder and stop paying rent but it's a killer to buy near the capital.

We're looking to upgrade form our three bed estate house right now as well but for a very similar house it was only €230,000 for the same spec of a house as this one.

We live in the countryside, in a small village but two of the countries major cities are within a forty minute drive with a good sized town just 15 minutes away.

There is nothing here but it's very well connected to the rest of the country.

We are looking at houses in the same price bracket about €400,000 and this is what we have on the radar.

A very modern, spacious and stylish 5 bedroom house with grounds and a high quality finish.

The difference in value is enormous.

What you can get for less money just based on location.

With a lot of jobs now remote working it only makes sense for more and more people to start moving away form the main cities and into nice areas that are well connected.

We're not quite ready to make the move just now but we will star tot get organized for early next year and set up our plans.

It won't be this house which i really love but it is what we will be looking for when we do make the move.

There are lots of good jobs down this side of the country and with everything cheaper away form the capital then I can't see any good reason to buy or live up in Dublin when the quality of life is so much better down here.

The wages might be slightly higher up there and there are a few more options but not enough to negate the cost of living difference.

I think this is everywhere. Living near the capital is always expensive.

But the house on your radar is so nice..

It is the same everywhere but the difference between the capital and outside of it is huge.

Not even living in the city but living within an hours drive of it.

I'm also keen to eventually escape the city and this is the sweet spot that I need to find.

I say 'escape' but I still want access, you know?

I do. I love the countryside but we still need so much form the city that it's nice to be close to it for when you want to go in.

I think that's the best situation to have.

It sounds that way but it's not huge money to be fair.

A thirty year mortgage and you won't even feel it with two wages coming into the house.

Those are just the prices over here. There is nothing to buy for less than 200K and those are not great.

That radar house is sweet. And I like the detached garage. So many new houses in America look like 3-car garages that happen to have space for people attached to them.

It's in my head now.

The only think we don't like is the location.

It's not too bad but it's far enough outside of where we want to be that we won't buy it.

If it was closer to the village then we would be rushing out to get the paperwork sorted.

It just has a nice style to it and everything that we want.

I believe that is the case everywhere and I guess it depends on how convenient you want things. From a standpoint, it's way too expensive in the city and it's far cheaper to go further away but it also takes up more time. I would not be looking forward to a long commute if your job is still inside the city though.
