Mystical Spiritualists Curse Killed Harry Houdini?

During the period surrounding last year's Halloween I developed some interest in famous magician Harry Houdini (because he died on Halloween, 1926) and binged on some content about him. I went on to make these two posts about him too:

What if Superman Decided to be a Force for Evil Rather than Good | Harry Houdini the Real Life Superman Who Chose Good Too

and

Harry Houdini Died on this Day, Halloween 1926, Killed by his Thorough Commitment to Marketing

Now I'm back with one more post about Houdini. This one is about the alleged curse that killed Houdini.

In the latter part of his life, Houdini spent a lot of time debunking the claims of the Spiritualists of the day. Spiritualists who claimed they had supernatural powers and could speak to the dead. Houdini attended some of their séances and work places only to find out that they used some of the tricks he used on stage, so he decided he was going to expose them all for the fraud they are.

He also placed a 10,000 dollars bounty for anyone who could prove their abilities which no one won. Due to his work debunking these Spiritualists it is said that he was cursed by one of them known as Margery and that it was this curse together with the fact that he upset Spiritualists that caused his death and short life.

The talk about this curse is only a matter of rumour and hearsay rather than a verified fact about Houdini's life but as I consumed content about Houdini I came to see that people have more regard for this curse than they should as they talk about it a lot like it isn't just some rumour and unimportant. So I've come to do some squashing and just leave it out there in the web.

I came across this site called Wildabouthoudini.com that talked about this curse in this article and they had some old newspaper pictures that reported it:

Margery Curse Dec 21 1925.jpeg

The site also stated that Margery denied giving such a curse:

Margery denied all this, saying: "All talk by Houdini that spirits are plotting his death within a year is not only false but absurd. Why, I never heard of Black Magic. I regard his statement as a joke."

The article then ended with this:

While Houdini survived 1925, the irony is that he would die within a year of Margery's statement, so to some it might have appeared the prophecy came to pass.

Curse? Coincidence? Just add it to the stew of intrigue that was the last year of Houdini's life.

Time to make the main point I want to with this post and it is this: whether or not Margery cursed Houdini, his death clearly has nothing to with the curse because it clearly didn't predict the death correct and secondly anyone who talks against Spiritualists and people who claim to have spiritual powers curses are always what they get. So many curses and whenever a person dies people start saying it is due to the curse as if one was meant to live forever.

I myself live in a country with very religious people holding different religious beliefs. I and some of my friends who have come to find that religions are all myths and legends and therefore false/bogus speak against religion sometimes and we get curses like "you will not live to see next year", "you will die before next month", etc.

The deadlines for these curses come and go everytime and we are still alive to laugh it off and say "you see, it doesn't work". Now, would me and my friends live forever? We'll surely die one day because we're mortals like everyone else. But because these curses keep coming there's surely going to be one curse lucky enough to be close to the day we'll die and poor thinkers would say "ah, it worked" 😅.

It's just like throwing darts at a board 🎯, no matter how bad you are at throwing if you throw so many you're sure to hit bull's-eye at least once or be so close. That's the case with many curses. Hitting it or being close doesn't mean you're have dart throwing skills it's just a mere product of so many trials. If you really have top tier dart throwing skills you can just pick one dart up, tell everyone you're going to hit it and then hit it. Whoever says it was a lucky shot you do it again and again.

That's the standard supernatural powers should meet too, if your curse is efficient then state in exact terms when a person would die. "12pm on 31st October 1926". If someone says it's a lucky shot then you simply pick someone else from the long list of people who would die all over the country very soon and mention em.
