EcoTrain QOTW 9.9: “Do We Need A Guru Or Teacher In order To Grow Spiritually?”
I think for people who are starting on their spiritual journey, it would be great to have a Guru or a Spiritual teacher to guide them. The problem here is – true, or good gurus and spiritual teachers are hard to come by. If you wait for one, you might have to wait for your whole life, and not get started on your spiritual journey at all. Besides, how do you know that your spiritual teacher knows any more than you do? Who was his spiritual teacher? Where did he learn to be spiritual? These are valid, and important questions one must ask before becoming a pupil.
Personally, I don’t think one needs a guru or a spiritual teacher. Spirituality is a very personal thing. It has an element of affinity. Spirituality is not for everyone. One is either into it or not. If you are into it, or if the subject interests you, you will be drawn towards it. If you are not into it, no matter how, spirituality cannot be forced upon you.
When spirituality is in your destiny, you will be naturally drawn to learn more, to find out more. The Law of Attraction will put you in the path of other people who are also on the path of spirituality. If you are attentive, you will learn a lot by paying attention to what you heard, saw and observed around you. You will find that everyone and everything is your teacher.
Spirituality has a lot to do with understanding and realization. It is not knowledge that can be crammed into the head in a sitting, a session or a couple of lessons. If something is drawing you towards the spiritual path, just go along with it. Take your time to understand what is happening around you and the patience to learn – from the people around you, from the events that are happening in the world, and the unfolding of Mother Nature in everyday life. At the end of the day, Mother Nature is the best Teacher – spiritual and/or otherwise.
Maybe the proverbial Teacher will appear when you – the student is ready.

That's where the spiritual guru comes in. Some people don't even know how to grow their spiritual life, some are yet to understand nor realize they got to grow spiritually. A spiritual guru will help realize and nurture . But as you've said to get a spiritual guru is like a pin in the sea

Yes, Gurus and teacher are difficult to come by. But when you start off your own, I guess one rely on books, audio teaching and other materials. Now those books and teachings came from the knowledge and experience of a person who has pass through the journey of spirituality. Those also serve as guidance and I can be referred to help tools from teachers and Gurus. There is no way that there is no need for a teacher or a guru. There is a saying, No one is self-sufficient, everyone relies on others.
