Entry for World Contest Photography Round #9

This is my entry for WORLD CONTEST PHOTOGRAPHY • ROUND #9 • hosted by @marc-allaria. This round is about MUSIC OF THE WORLD and I have to dig into my archive to find the photo that I wish to use.

Back in 2009 when visiting my friends in Switzerland we went to see the waterfall on the river Rhein in Schaffhausen. This was spectacular and impressive especially when we took a boat to go closer. The Rheinfall is not high but wide and if I remember rightly it is over 15 000 years old.

But my post is about the music, right? And this is what we saw after we were back - the iconic Swiss alphorn.

Some may argue as it is common for other Alps countries, but I think it is mainly gaining popularity among the tourists visiting Switzerland. The man who played this enormous instrument chose perfect place to entertain the tourists with the waterfall as a background. Once used by the shepherds to call the cows from the pastures, the instrument was developed as musical and turned to a national symbol of the country. Now the unmistakable long horn is used in festivals held annually in Switzerland.

Switzerland is a country I had the pleasure to visit many times and now browsing my old photos I only regret I did not take more. But memories are still alive.
