Pinocchio: the true story [ENG/ESP]

Hello friends, welcome to my blog, I recently saw this new version of Pinocchio, directed by the award-winning Guillermo del Toro, a man who has surprised us with extraordinary films, including Pan's Labyrinth, brings us this adaptation based on the book "The Adventures of Pinocchio" by Carlo Collodi. This book, published 140 years ago and brought to the movies for the first time by Disney 86 years ago, in cartoons, made known this wonderful character that we all saw at some point in this classic. Over the years there have been many remakes of this story, but in my personal opinion none until now had reached the essence of the first one.

Hola amigos, bienvenidos a mi blog, hace poco vi esta nueva versión de Pinocho, dirigida por el galardonado Guillermo del Toro, un hombre que nos ha sorprendido con extraordinarias películas, entre ellas El Laberinto del Fauno, nos trae esta adaptación basada en el libro “Las Aventuras de Pinocho”, de Carlo Collodi. Este libro publicado hace 140 años y llevado al cine la primera vez por Disney hace 86 años, en dibujos animados, dio a conocer este maravilloso personaje y que todos vimos alguna vez en ese clásico. Con los años ha habido muchos remakes de esta historia, pero en mi opinión personal ninguna hasta ahora había alcanzado la esencia de la primera.

This staging is a work of visual art in my opinion, creating not only a more real character than the original story, but also surpassing in essence the moral of the book. Let's remember that Pinocchio, as well as the stories of the Brothers Grimm, were not originally created for children but for adults, because they were inspired by the folklore, fables and legends of those countries. So Guillermo, brings us a more real story, dark and with incorporations of fantastic elements, that makes us think as the film progresses, incorporates those subtle morals as Pinocchio faces new situations, as part of his learning to become a human child.

Esta puesta en escena es una obra de arte visual en mi opinión, al crear no solo un personaje más real al de la historia original, sino superar en esencia las moralejas del libro. Recordemos que Pinocho, al igual que las historias de los hermanos Grimm, no fueron creadas originalmente para niños sino para adultos, porque fueron inspiradas en el folclor, fábulas y leyendas de esos países. Así que Guillermo, nos trae una historia más real, oscura y con incorporaciones de elementos fantásticos, que nos hace pensar a medida que avanza la película, nos incorpora esas sutiles moralejas a medida que Pinocho se enfrenta a nuevas situaciones, como parte de su aprendizaje para convertirse en un niño humano.

I loved those little details that Del Toro leaves us, like breadcrumbs throughout the story, as with Pepeto, a father who must learn, like Pinocchio, to accept himself as he is and not to compare, the importance of learning from mistakes, the nobility of forgiveness and the ability to sacrifice for those you love, because in the end love is the engine that drives everything. These are elements that, throughout the film, are shown with subtlety many times. The pace of the film is just right, taking us between the rhythm of the music and the dialogue to different stages in Pinocchio's trajectory, learning and curious about what he has around him.

Me encantaron esos pequeños detalles que Del Toro nos va dejando, como migas de pan a lo largo de la historia, como con Pepeto, un padre que debe aprender, al igual que Pinocho a aceptarse como son y no comparar, la importancia de aprender de los errores, la nobleza de perdonar y la capacidad de sacrificarse por aquellos que amas, porque al final el amor es el motor que lo impulsa todo. Son elementos que, durante toda la cinta, son mostrados con sutileza muchas veces. El ritmo de la película es el adecuado, llevándonos entre el ritmo de la música y el diálogo a etapas diferentes en la trayectoria de Pinocho, por aprender y curiosear lo que tiene a su alrededor.

In short, Pinocchio, by Guillermo Del Toro, is a film for young and old, they will see a Pinocchio, more real than in the stories, wooden and with an entertaining musical background, while adults will see much more beyond, the morals that the story leaves us and for those who read the book, more faithful to the original story by Collodi. This is a more adult adaptation and full of metaphors, but without leaving aside that magic to entertain children. For me, Disney's original Pinocchio and this new adaptation by Guillermo are undoubtedly the best so far made from Collodi's story.

En definitiva, Pinocho, de Guillermo Del Toro, es una película para grandes y chicos, ellos verán un Pinocho, más real al de los cuentos, de madera y con un trasfondo musical entretenido, mientras los adultos verán mucho más allá, las moralejas que nos deja la historia y para quienes leyeron el libro, más fiel a la historia original de Collodi. Esta es una adaptación más adulta y plagadas de metáforas, pero sin dejar a un lado esa magia para entretener a los niños. Para mí el Pinocho, el original de Disney, y esta nueva adaptación de Guillermo, son sin lugar a dudas las mejores hasta ahora hechas de la historia de Collodi.
