[ESP/ENG] Review: Nightmare Alley a movie that will surprise you (No spoilers)/Nightmare Alley una película que te sorprenderá (Sin spoiler)

Hello my dear friends, I just saw the new movie by one of the film directors I admire the most, Guillermo del Toro, because his movies are always out of the ordinary, with fantastic characters and stories that don't, they only let you see the complexity of the human being but of their souls, however unusual they may be. The first Guillermo movie I saw was "Pan's Labyrinth" and from then on I have followed him with all his tapes. Now he presents us with "Nightmare Alley" (El Callejón de las Almas Perdidas, as it is titled in Spanish), a film based on the novel by William Lindsey of the same name. It is a remake of 1947, but with a better adaptation and staging than the previous version, where del Toro delves deeper into the characters and their shortcomings.

Hola mis queridos amigos, acabo de ver la nueva película de uno de los directores de cine que más admiro, Guillermo del Toro, porque sus películas siempre se salen de lo común, con personajes fantásticos e historias que no, solo te dejan ver la complejidad del ser humano sino de sus almas por más inusuales que sean. La primera película de Guillermo que vi fue “El Laberinto del fauno” y de allí en adelante le he seguido con todas sus cintas. Ahora nos presenta “Nightmare Alley” (El Callejón de las Almas Perdidas, como se titula en español), una cinta está basada en la novela de William Lindsey, del mismo nombre. Es un remake de 1947, pero con una mejor adaptación y puesta en escena que la anterior versión, donde del Toro profundiza más en los personajes y sus carencias.

For this film, its director had a first-rate cast such as: Bradley Cooper, Rooney Mara, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, David Strathairn, Richard Jenkins, Mark Povinelli, Ron Perlman, Holt McCallany, Jim Beaver, Mary Steenburgen, Tim Blake Nelson, Paul Anderson, Lara Jean Chorostecki, Clifton Collins Jr., David Hewlett, Dian Bachar. Each one of them shone in this film with their incredible performances, especially Bradley shone and in my particular opinion it is, if not the best, one of his best performances, so I don't see it strange that he competes with this film for critics' awards and academia, like Cate Blanchett who with this character shows her great acting skills, with a character in which she naturally takes hold and makes it real.

Para esta cinta su director conto con un reparto de primera como: Bradley Cooper, Rooney Mara, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, David Strathairn, Richard Jenkins, Mark Povinelli, Ron Perlman, Holt McCallany, Jim Beaver, Mary Steenburgen, Tim Blake Nelson, Paul Anderson, Lara Jean Chorostecki, Clifton Collins Jr., David Hewlett, Dian Bachar. Cada uno de ellos brillo en esta cinta con sus increíbles actuaciones, sobre todo Bradley se lucio y en mi opinión particular es, sino la mejor, una de sus mejores actuaciones, así que no veo raro que compita con esta cinta por premios de la critica y academia, al igual que Cate Blanchett quien con este personaje de muestra sus grandes dotes de actriz, con un personaje en el que se apodera de manera natural y lo hace real.

Everything about this film has impressed me from its photography, architecture and art deco that transports you to that time. That magic of playing with light to make each scene so special that you can't take your eyes off it, the costumes, absolutely everything is well taken care of, which reminds you of those detective series from the 30's or Dick Tracy type comics, with that atmosphere. Del Toro will undoubtedly return to the forefront of the awards with this film because throughout the film only emotions grow and leads us to know the nature of his complex characters.

Todo de esta cinta me ha impresionado desde su fotografía, arquitectura y arte deco que te transporta a esa época. Esa magia de jugar con la luz para hacer cada escena tan especial que no puedes quitar tus ojos de ella, el vestuario, absolutamente todo está bien cuidado, que te hace recordar esas series de detectives de los años 30’s o comics tipo Dick Tracy, con esa atmosfera. Del Toro sin lugar a dudas con esta cinta volverá a la palestra de los premios porque a lo largo de toda la película solo van creciendo las emociones y nos lleva a conocer la naturaleza de sus complejos personajes.

This film is about a man Staton Carlisle (Bradley Cooper), he arrives at a circus to ask for a job and little by little with his charming personality he will conquer all those who work in the circus. Her ambition will lead him to learn from the seer Zeena (Toni Collette) and her husband, an alcoholic and mentalist Pete (David Strathairn), from whom he will learn the tricks to swindle people. There he will also meet Molly (Rooney Mara), with whom he will fall in love. There, in this sordid and decadent world of entertainment, Staton will learn enough to make his own show, far from the circus and in an environment of opulence. He will become famous and climb position, here appears the psychiatrist Dr. Lilith Ritter (Cate Blanchett), with whom he will join to try to deceive a dangerous millionaire. Their relationship will unleash Stanton's demons until he brings out the worst in him. The performances of both Cate and Brandley with incredible you feel in all their scenes the intensity of the emotions and the psychological games of both.

Esta película trata de un hombre Staton Carlisle (Bradley Cooper), llega aun circo a pedir trabajo y poco a poco con su personalidad encantadora irá conquistando a todos los que trabajan en el circo. Su ambición lo llevará a aprender de la vidente Zeena (Toni Collette) y de su marido, un hombre alcohólico y mentalista Pete (David Strathairn), de quien aprenderá los trucos para estafar a las personas. Allí también conocerá a Molly (Rooney Mara), de quien se enamorará. Allí en ese sórdido y decadente mundo del espectáculo Staton aprenderá lo suficiente para hacer su propio show, lejos del circo y en un ambiente de opulencia. Se hará famoso y escalará posición, acá aparece la psiquiatra Dra. Lilith Ritter (Cate Blanchett), con quien se unirá para tratar de engañar a un peligroso millonario. La relación de ambos desatará los demonios de Stanton hasta llevarlo a sacar lo peor de él. Las actuaciones tanto de Cate como de Brandley con increíbles sientes en todas sus escenas la intensidad de las emociones y los juegos psicológicos de ambos.

The best thing about this film is an unexpected ending, the one you least expect but that in my opinion could not be better, obviously without counting anything so that if you read this review you have the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful movie as I did. It portrays in a credible and real way what it is like to live in the fairs and carnivals with the so-called circus phenomena, to know their tricks to deceive and scare the public, what they do to survive with their shows and how far they are able to go to succeed, something that today remains the same and this makes it timeless. For me, this film along with "Power of the Dog", are in the top of the best of 2021. It is a 10 out of 10. If you have a chance, do not miss it.

Lo mejor en esta cinta es un final inesperado, el que menos esperas pero que en mi opinión no podía ser mejor, obviamente sin contar nada para que si lees esta reseña tengas la oportunidad de disfrutar como lo hice yo de esta maravillosa película. Retrata de manera creíble y real como es vivir en las ferias y carnavales con los llamados fenómenos del circo, conocer sus trucos para engañar y asustar al público, lo que hacen para sobrevivir con sus espectáculos y hasta donde son capaces de llegar para triunfar, algo que hoy sigue siendo igual y esto lo hace atemporal. Para mi esta cinta junto con el “Poder del Perro”, están en el top de las mejores del 2021. Es un 10 de 10. Si tienes oportunidad no dejes de verla.
