Summer in Rural Bangladesh: Beauty, Storms, and Challenges-LOH Contest #292

Hello Ladies of Hive Community!

Today I would like to share my thoughts about the current season in my country and the things I love and dislike the most about it.

I live in a small village in the Barisal region of Bangladesh. Summer in our village is very different from what many people imagine. It is not only a season of sunshine and ripe fruits; it is also a season full of unexpected weather, challenges, and beautiful natural transformations.

question :

2️⃣ Summer, dry season, wet season, or fall — what is your favorite thing about the current season in your country and/or the thing you dislike the most about it?

About three years ago, I left city life in city and moved back to my village home. Since then, I have experienced the seasons from a completely different perspective. Village life has taught me how closely our lives depend on nature.

One thing I love about summer mornings in my village is their peaceful beauty. The fresh air, the sound of birds, and the greenery all around create a wonderful atmosphere. Early in the morning, everything feels calm and refreshing.

However, the weather changes dramatically throughout the day. By noon, the heat becomes almost unbearable. Then, without warning, dark clouds gather, strong winds begin to blow, and heavy rain starts falling. After sunset, the temperature can drop so much that we sometimes need a blanket during the night.

Just yesterday, the afternoon was extremely hot. But by evening, a storm arrived with heavy rain, and later at night the weather became surprisingly cool. This sudden change is something we experience regularly during the Bengali month of Boishakh.

Our house is located a short distance away from the paved road, and the path leading to our home is unpaved. During this season,

that becomes one of our biggest problems. Rainwater collects everywhere, turning the road into mud and standing water. Sometimes it becomes difficult even to leave the house.

The ponds overflow, and the surrounding environment becomes almost jungle-like with thick vegetation and water everywhere. Recently, the rice harvesting season ended, but many farmers had to work in rain and mud to bring their crops home. Watching their hard work reminds me how difficult farming life can be.

As for me, I raise ducks, chickens, and goats. This season creates many challenges for them as well. My ducks and chickens stay mostly inside the yard because they cannot move freely through the flooded areas.

Another problem is my fruit trees. Many fruits are damaged by excessive rainfall. This year my wax apple tree (Jamrul) produced a large number of fruits.

Unfortunately, the continuous rain has affected their sweetness, and many fruits are spoiling while still hanging on the tree.

In cities, these fruits are considered valuable, but here many people do not even bother collecting them.

Some of my mango trees are also suffering because they are planted close to the pond.

The soil around their roots is becoming weak due to excessive water. Strong storms have damaged fences around many houses, including ours. This creates concerns about the safety of our poultry and increases the risk of attacks from predators.

Despite all these difficulties, nature always teaches us valuable lessons. Every challenge seems to bring some hidden blessing.

After the rice harvest, many grains grow again from the remaining stalks left in the fields.

Farmers usually do not have time to collect them. As a result, these fields become a natural source of food for ducks, chickens, cows, and goats. I always feel that this is a special provision from Allah for His creatures.

Anyone can collect these leftover grains. Some people gather them for their poultry, while others collect and sell them. One of my neighbors gathered nearly nine maunds of rice from such fields last year. It became an important source of feed for their animals.

This year, I am also collecting some of these grains to feed my ducks. It is a simple but beautiful example of how nature continues to provide, even after a harvest has ended.

The thing I dislike most about the current season is definitely the mud and stagnant water. They create endless inconvenience and make daily life difficult. Yet, strangely enough, when evening arrives, the scenery changes completely. The golden light, the cool breeze after the rain, and the peaceful village landscape erase much of the day's frustration.

No matter how challenging this season may be, I still find myself waiting for those magical sunsets. The beauty of my village at that time makes every hardship feel worthwhile.

Thank you for reading my post and allowing me to share a small glimpse of life in my village.

Thank you all for reading.

With love,
A grateful soul

Despite the mud and flooding, it sounds beautiful. I'm not so sure about the heat but as long as everyone is good, then so is it. Thank you for sharing your response. Have a lovely day! !LADY

Despite all these difficulties with the mud and stagnant water that you describe, nature always shows us God's blessings, even when some seem hidden; they are valuable lessons. Thank you for sharing your experiences,
