Its main function is to improve the ecosystem, because through its leaves it absorbs moisture from the fog and releases it through its roots when there is drought. It is also considered medicinal silver, it is used to make cough syrups.

Estas fotografías fueron tomadas en el Páramo merideño, Venezuela, son unas preciosas Flores de Frailejones que por cierto, últimamente se han hecho muchas campañas promoviendo el cuidado de esta especie, ya que el frailejón según conexionnoticiasec.com es una especie de planta que habita en los páramos de Colombia, Venezuela y Ecuador. Su función principal es mejorar el ecosistema, pues a través de sus hojas absorbe la humedad de la neblina y la libera a través de sus raíces en épocas de sequía. Además es considerada plata medicinal, con ella se fabrican jarabes para la tos.
