Knowing Your Health Condition

Hi guys,

How are we doing today? Welcome to December, most of us are super excited about December because of the Holidays we get to experience, the times we get to spend with our family and friends, and all the other fun that comes with it.

And of course, there is winter too and the fact that snow will fall and we get to ice skate and a lot of other fun. I hope the month has already started great for you though and I am optimistic that we will all have a great week this week.

Since my time on the blockchain, I have always been a health advocate, due to the field in which I find myself I get to see a lot regarding health and the eye and I always have the enthusiasm to share what I learn on a daily, especially regarding life experiences with my patients that we may all learn from it.

Today I want to speak about a topic that I have been wanting to share for a while now, it's not really focused on any particular medical condition however this is something or a habit I would like all individuals to pick up for the benefit of themselves and their loved ones. It comes in handy sometimes and you could end up even saving a life.

Be In the Know

Having any form of a medical condition is a responsibility that many individuals do not realize they ought to fulfill. To be sick means to seek health and to have a long-term condition that comes to stay with you or perhaps you happen to be born with it means you have another thing about yourself that you ought to know almost everything if not everything about.

Unfortunately, many individuals do not realize this or take it seriously, they believe it is the work of the GP alone to know and their responsibility is to only go in for reviews and take their drugs. But the responsibility goes beyond that and it becomes incumbent on you to do more. There's nothing wrong with asking questions, as a matter of fact, I encourage the asking of questions and the wanting to know more and understand when it comes to my patients.

The only issue I have always had is, please ask or seek information from the right source, do not just go home and google things and take whatever you get, you may end up scaring yourself to death even when your condition is not that dicey, because google can be overwhelming when you are not an expert looking at for perhaps some specificities. So while you are with your health provider, ask those questions that need asking so you get your answers right.

Try as much as possible to know as much about your diagnosis as you can, what your prognosis may be, how you can improve by focusing on the various aspects of your life, why you need this number of reviews, why this new drug, how changes are going anytime you visit your GP and what you can afford to read to know more for yourself. I recommend letting your health provider provide you with the right sources of information or articles he has vetted so you get things right and not just jump into the pool of information.

If and when we make efforts to do some of these basic things not just for ourselves but for our siblings and loved ones, we can answer lots of questions when we find ourselves in a new place with a new healthcare provider and that could save both parties a lot of trouble. Again, in a situation where one may have some form of severe allergic reaction or cannot take certain drugs, you could literally save a life with this kind of knowledge.

So let's make an effort to be knowledgeable about our health and that of others, learn and practice, and ask and seek information from the right source I believe when we continue to do these, we will do ourselves a lot of good. It was a pleasure sharing this with us once again, I do wish all of us happy holidays in the days to come, cheers, and have a blast!

One common thing among many people of which I happen to be part is going to the hospital for reviews.I don't recall going to the hospital the whole of this year..but with this knowledge shared here.. I think I will make it a point to have a review from time to time. Thanks Doc for this insight
