Photo Advice Needed Please!

So travelling back to Bangkok the other night, we were flying back from Nakhon Si Thammarat which is a small provincial airport where you still have to walk out on to the apron to board the aircraft by stairs. This will change soon as their new terminal is almost complete.

I love to take photos of the planes at night and my cheap phone camera does a pretty good job on night shots however, as you can see, they are tinged with yellow from the glow of the floodlights.

My question is this. IS it possible to simply adjust the colour in the photos by lowering the levels of yellow, which I hope will also bring the reds up a little? If so, which is the SIMPLEST and EASIEST!!! desktop of mobile App to use that will do this. Anyone who mentions Photoshop will be downvoted! ;-)

Seriously, I'm not a photographer and have zero knowledge of editing and 'shopping' photos so any advice would be appreciated as I think these pics would make a very nice set if they were 'fiddled' with and I really do like the composition and the deep black background.

Thanks in advance for your help #photographylovers :-)

OK, I'm going to push my luck on the advice front and ask if anyone also has any tips for taking night shots out of the plane windows. Especially to get the shots a little more sharp.

Thanks again, and if any of you pros could do a few tutorial posts, I'm sure a lot of us would be grateful and it might drag up the overall quality of the photos appearing on Hive which would be a positive!

Hi mate, if your phone allows it, try adjusting the light balance, on some it’ll say “incandescent” or “fluorescent”, if it still doesn’t work, try adjust manually to a bluer tone. Hope this helps.

Thanks, You're right I think about getting the settings adjusted before taking the photos. I need to look a little more closer at the phone as there is definitely a white balance control but not sure about incandescence or fluorescence.

Have you tried lightroom mobile or snapseed? they are pretty easy to use and will make your photos look more professional. I personally use them and someone was once asking me to write some tutorials about presets and all that. I rarely edited my photos these days though but I can maybe make time to write some tutorials or two.

I downloaded Snapseed thanks Mac and its fairly straightforward. Me being me though, I play around endlessly and can't decide what works and what doesn't lol!!

Some tutorials would be wonderful thanks :-)

Yeah, snapseed is fairly straightforward, easy to use and export. Lightroom is a bit more complicated and also some features are not free. I'll have to make time for those tutorials but anyway, hope you'll share some shoots edited with snapseed soon:D bet it'll be cool!

On my Windows PC, I like using the IrfanView Software. Just press shift + g and click a part of the "Original image" frame that should by approximately neutral gray.

It does not work perfectly on those airport photos because the lights really had a yellow tinge, so the scene actually was yellow in the first place. Nevertheless that tool is easy to use and the result does have a more natural look to it.

Thanks Thomas. I've been having a play with this on my laptop and seems to be a perfect mix of simplicity and function. You're right about the problem being with the originals which brings me to Darren and Boomys mention of the incandescence and white balance.
Thanks again mate :-)

I do like a night shot, oooer.

I think it is a simple case of white balance. Which often on many apps has an auto function. The ones I use are all fiddly bits and madness though so I wouldnt recommend them. They would almost be as bad as the 'shop :OD

Fnar! Fnar! I think white balance adjustment before taking the shot might be the key but they aren't keen on loitering but I will try that next time. Thank you :-)

I don't know if it still exists, but Polarr used to be a very easy to use Google app for editing photos.

I tried using the filter function on my gallery app and it gave me this.
