The Silverbloggers Chronicles #01: Yellow ☀️🌻💛

Yellow

It would be very easy for me, who has lived all my life in a city surrounded by the sea, to say that my favorite color is blue, with all its shades, from the emerald blue that colors the Caribbean Sea to the indigo blue with which the inland sea is painted. I would argue that blue has always been a horizon, a sky and even the beginning of a poem I learned as a child (Blue of that distant summit over which my thoughts fly). But no, my favorite color is yellow, the one we find in the sun, in the earth, in gold, in sunflowers, in the golden spike.

In Venezuela there is a tradition regarding the birth of a baby: if a newborn is a girl, everything is dressed and decorated in pink; if it is a boy, everything is blue. In my family there is a legend that since it used to be impossible to know the gender of the child before birth, my mother bought everything in yellow because according to her, yellow is unisex.

I would like to tell you an extraordinary story about why yellow is my favorite color and not other colors. An extraordinary story full of mysteries and great revelations, like the day I was born I arrived wrapped in a thin layer of gold, or that yellow gives me superpowers. But no, I like yellow as much as I like salty things or the scent of coconut.

It was that taste that made me decide, when I turned 15, to wear a yellow dress and not a pink one like most quinceañeras at the time. I remember my mother objecting: “Yellow is so unisex, Nancy, so unfeminine”. And I don't think so. Colors are colors and we are the ones who nurture them with symbolism. For me, yellow can represent light, tranquility, fun, energy.

I have a friend who has a problem with yellow foods: he can't tolerate them. He can't eat butter, yellow cheese, eggs, or fruits of that color. I, on the other hand, am currently doing the math: I love beer, mangoes, camburs, butter, oils, corn, pineapple, lemons...

This photo was sent to me by a friend who is in Colombia and said: This flower reminded me of you.

A song that I love, and is one of my favorites by Coldplay, is Yellow. I would like that when people see me, they only see that color. That if they look at the color yellow, they remember me. And that the day I die, they see me as that sun that hides on the horizon, that before saying goodbye dyes the sky with golden colors and leaves a clarity that steals your breath.

All colors should look great on you. But yellow will undoubtedly have more impact on you, as it is a color of energy and expansion. Best regards, @nancybriti1.

Thanks for that compliment, @josemalavem. I think yellow more than a color, it's a state, a way of looking at life. A hug for you 🫂

Golden light is the best to photograph in, as well. Whether its the afternoon glow, or a sunrise, the low angles and shadows give everything a bit more detail.

If it wasn't yellow, what would the next colour down the chain be for you?

The green one! In all shades and tones. I find green so beautiful. And your color would be, my friend? I hope you can participate in this initiative. Greetings🌻

Its a couple of colours, dark, lush, forest green, purple and gold. All of them together are so great.

So something that ends up being a combination of these loosely connected harmonies. I try to use these tones as much as possible in my photography!

Well Guy Berryman the bassist for Coldplay grew up in the town of Kirkcaldy where I live now. But he actually went to school in Edinburgh, the same school that I went to The Edinburgh Academy.
Yellow is great, and yellow and blue is one of my favourite colour combinations and probably nature's most beautiful combination.
Great to see your entry.
The whole pink for girls and blue for boys is so wrong, people are tonto 🤣

Pink for Boys: Pink was seen as a diluted version of red, which was considered a strong, masculine, and "decided" color suitable for boys. It was thought to be more robust.

Blue for Girls: Blue, on the other hand, was seen as softer, more delicate, and reminiscent of the Virgin Mary, making it suitable for girls.

Examples: A 1918 article from Ladies' Home Journal stated: "Pink, being a more decided and stronger color, is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl."

Quotes from my gemini...

A big yellow hug for you Nancy :)

I like yellow, although I can't say it's my favorite color. But as that song says "amarillo es lo que luce verde nace donde quiera" ;)
Very nice post to start your chronicles, saludos!

I was going to quote that song, but I thought a lot of people didn't have a referent. There is another saying: “He who wears yellow, to his beauty it is”. Thanks for this initiative and support, @coquicoin.

I really enjoyed reading your post, my dear @nancybriti1 . I didn't know about yellow when buying baby clothes. Now that I think about it, I don't remember how we did it, but I'm sure we didn't use yellow, pink, or blue. I love the yellow of the sun. Thanks for sharing. A big hug from Maracay.

I don't know if this custom is only from Latin America, Venezuelans or a certain social class. Now, I watch videos of the “revelation of genders” and I see that the idea of pink for the girl and blue for the boy continues. I remember that in my time it was strange for a man to wear pink, but thank God those things have changed. What's your favorite color, my friend. I send you a hug
