SICK - Film Review [ESP|ENG]
La unión entre eventos reales o históricos junto a la ficción son ingredientes que deberían crear un resultado maravilloso; el mundo del cine siempre está abierto a recibir influencias de la vida misma y de otras producciones cinematográficas que ayuden a desarrollar una idea; películas bélicas, de acción, terror y comedia pueden ser un ejemplo y es que en muchas de las producciones que se basen en hechos reales siempre existe el uso de la ficción para hacer la historia mucho más interesante de lo que seguramente es y de igual manera, si a una historia ficticia se le agrega realidad tampoco debería ser considerado extraño porque es algo que se ha usado; claramente todo dependerá de muchos factores para que estas producciones puedan ser un éxito o no y justamente en el film el cual hago reseña en esta publicación es un claro ejemplo del buen uso tanto de la ficción como de la realidad, en esta oportunidad de uno de los eventos más traumáticos en los últimos años.
The union between real or historical events together with fiction are ingredients that should create a wonderful result; the world of cinema is always open to receive influences from life itself and other film productions that help develop an idea; war films, action, horror and comedy can be an example and in many of the productions that are based on real events there is always the use of fiction to make the story much more interesting than it surely is and likewise, if a fictional story is added to reality should not be considered strange because it is something that has been used; clearly everything will depend on many factors for these productions to be a success or not and precisely in the film which I am reviewing in this publication is a clear example of the good use of both fiction and reality, in this opportunity of one of the most traumatic events in recent years.
La aparición del COVID-19 fue algo que impactó profundamente en todo el mundo; el cambio radical que se vivió por más dos años antes de la aparición de la vacuna que apaciguó los casos de contagio en gran parte del mundo, trajo nuevamente una normalidad a la sociedad; una parte de esa normalidad que se vio afectado fue el de realizar actividades como era ir al cine la cual es uno de los negocios más afectados; creo que justamente eso hace que muy poco se vea producciones cinematográficas en dónde se tome como referencia la pandemia causada por el covid, pero eso no evita de que exista películas que está enfermedad sea base para el desarrollo de una historia como por ejemplo sucede en "SICK" que relata la historia dos amigas, "Parker" y "Miri" que en abril del 2020 mientras ocurría la pandemia por el Covid-19 deciden ir a la casa (en realidad mansión) del lago de la familia de Parker para realizar una cuarentena antes de regresar a sus respectivos hogares; lo que debería ser unos días de tranquilidad, alejadas de todo el caos, se convertirá en una noche para sobrevivir, ya que habrá alguien más que será igual de letal que la enfermedad de la que están huyendo.
The appearance of COVID-19 was something that had a profound impact on the whole world; the radical change that was lived for more than two years before the appearance of the vaccine that pacified the cases of contagion in a great part of the world, brought back a normality to society; a part of that normality that was affected was to carry out activities such as going to the movies, which is one of the most affected businesses; I think that precisely that makes that very few film productions are seen where the pandemic caused by covid is taken as a reference, but that does not prevent that there are films that this disease is the basis for the development of a story as for example happens in "SICK" which tells the story of two friends, "Parker" and "Miri" that in April 2020 while the pandemic occurred by the Covid-19 decide to go to the house (actually mansion) of Parker's family lake to perform a quarantine before returning to their respective homes; What should be a few days of tranquility, away from all the chaos, will turn into a night to survive, as there will be someone else who will be just as lethal as the disease they are fleeing.
Este film, el cual pertenece al género Slasher, lo quería ver desde el momento de su estreno en varios festivales de cine el pasado año; sabía de qué de una manera u otra terminaría en algún servicio de streaming y eso me sorprendió porque a pesar de contar con la producción de Blumhouse Productions y Miramax no consiguió una distribuidora y al final fue vendida a Peacock la cual decidió estrenarla el pasado 13 de este mes. Este film fue dirigido por John Hyams del cual pensaba que no había visto ningún anterior trabajo, pero él dirigió dos de las últimas tres películas de la franquicia "Universal Soldier" (sí amigos, yo vi esas películas); también dirigió "Alone" film del 2020 del cual he leído buenas opiniones y que en un futuro deberé de ver y más por el trabajo que realizó en esta producción en dónde en mi opinión realiza excelentes secuencias de acción y persecución; su uso de la cámara en muchas escenas es un plus, ya que tanto las actuaciones, la música, la tensión y por supuesto el terror de esas escenas demuestra una gran evolución por parte de este director.
El guion es lo que destacó de este film y eso es porque es escrito por nada más y nada menos que Kevin Williamson quien junto a Katelyn Crabb crearon una de las historias más divertidas que he visto en los últimos meses; como todos saben (creo), Williamson es el creador de la franquicia de "SCREAM" así que si ven similitudes entre este film y la gran franquicia slasher, no piensen que SICK es una copia de lo hecho en esa franquicia y es que en mi opinión no es la única influencia cinematografica que existe, ya que hay otras más como por ejemplo "The Strangers" (2008), "You're Next" (2011) y otra más que no nombraré para no hacer spoilers; ahora con esto puedo decir la frase de lo poco original del film, pero los slashers no son originales, son divertidos y está película es justamente eso, toma todo lo que hace divertido a este género y se lo da de la mejor manera a todo fan.
This film, which belongs to the Slasher genre, I wanted to see it from the moment of its premiere in several film festivals last year; I knew that one way or another it would end up in some streaming service and that surprised me because despite having the production of Blumhouse Productions and Miramax it didn't get a distributor and in the end it was sold to Peacock which decided to release it last 13th of this month. This film was directed by John Hyams of whom I thought I had not seen any previous work, but he directed two of the last three films in the "Universal Soldier" franchise (yes folks, I saw those films); he also directed "Alone" film of 2020 of which I have read good opinions and that in the future I must see and more for the work he did in this production where in my opinion he makes excellent action and chase sequences; his use of the camera in many scenes is a plus, since both the performances, the music, the tension and of course the terror of those scenes shows a great evolution by this director.
The script is what stood out about this film and that's because it's written by none other than Kevin Williamson who along with Katelyn Crabb created one of the funniest stories I've seen in recent months; as you all know (I think), Williamson is the creator of the "SCREAM" franchise so if you see similarities between this film and the great slasher franchise, do not think that SICK is a copy of what was done in that franchise and in my opinion it is not the only cinematic influence that exists, as there are others such as "The Strangers" (2008), "You're Next" (2011) and another one that I will not name not to make spoilers; now with this I can say the phrase about the unoriginality of the film, but slashers are not original, they are fun and this film is just that, it takes everything that makes this genre fun and gives it in the best way to every fan.
La actuación de Gideon Adlon como "Parker Manson" me pareció excelente; es la primera vez que veo uno de sus trabajos y me gustó mucho el cómo evoluciona su personaje mientras transcurre la historia; por momentos Parker entra en esos clichés del típico personaje de este tipo de films, pero al ser una historia muy actual pienso que su interpretación es perfecta y puedo decir que existe similitudes con algunos de los personajes del film "Bodies Bodies Bodies", pero sé que es debido a que representan esta época; Parker es de esos personajes que comienzan de una manera y terminan de otra y puedo decir que su evolución es primordial para esta historia; ahora por parte de Beth Million quien interpreta a "Miri Woodlow", ella es todo lo contrario a lo que es su mejor amiga; ella es responsable, cuidadosa, ambas son inteligentes, pero Miri es más precavida y sabe analizar más las cosas aunque es menos valiente que Parker y eso la convierte en la favorita víctima. Ambos actuaciones son buenas, me gustaron cómo evolucionan y eso es debido a las decisiones que tienen los guionistas y su director, los cuales hacen que resalten en momentos importantes en el film.
The performance of Gideon Adlon as "Parker Manson" was excellent; it is the first time I see one of his works and I really liked how his character evolves while the story goes by; at times Parker enters in those clichés of the typical character of this kind of films, but being a very current story I think his interpretation is perfect and I can say that there are similarities with some of the characters of the film "Bodies Bodies Bodies", but I know it is because they represent this time; Parker is one of those characters that start in one way and end in another and I can say that her evolution is primordial for this story; now for Beth Million who plays "Miri Woodlow", she is the opposite of her best friend; she is responsible, careful, both are intelligent, but Miri is more cautious and knows how to analyze things more although she is less brave than Parker and that makes her the favorite victim. Both performances are good, I liked how they evolve and that is due to the decisions of the screenwriters and director, which make them stand out in important moments of the film.
Que divertida y buena es SICK; es un gran film el cual a pesar de no inventar nada y sin ser diferente trae frescura al género slasher; me gusta que de una historia real, traumática, triste y dura para la humanidad se tomen el tiempo de realizar una sátira y a la vez un relato terrorífico y eso es lo que resalto del film, del guión en sí el cual se complementa con la gran intensidad de sus escenas de persecución y acción que son sumamente buenas, excelentes; creo que es un film perfecto para este género y que debería ser reconocido como tal, ya que demuestra de que este tipo de películas deben ser así, directas, llenas de locura y fuertes tal como lo es está y otras más, por eso creo que si otra compañía streaming que quiera producir films de este estilo no debería contenerse y ser fiel a lo que se ha hecho en anterioridad para que este género se mantenga con el tiempo porque como siempre he dicho, estás películas están hechas para eso, para divertir y entretener y esas funciones, está película las cumple a la perfección y es por eso que la recomiendo y como siempre consejo, no vean el tráiler no lean otra opinión (a parte de la mía, la cual está realizada sin hacer ningún spoiler) para que disfruten aún más de este buen film y que pienso que es un buen preámbulo para lo que será SCREAM VI.
How funny and good is SICK; it is a great film which despite not inventing anything and without being different brings freshness to the slasher genre; I like that from a real, traumatic, sad and hard story for humanity they take the time to make a satire and at the same time a terrifying story and that is what I highlight of the film, the script itself which is complemented by the great intensity of its chase and action scenes that are extremely good, excellent; I think it is a perfect film for this genre and should be recognized as such, because it shows that this type of films should be so, direct, full of madness and strong as it is this and others, so I think that if another streaming company that wants to produce films of this style should not hold back and be faithful to what has been done in the past for this genre to be maintained over time because as I have always said, these movies are made for that, to amuse and entertain and those functions, this movie fulfills them to perfection and that is why I recommend it and as always advice, do not watch the trailer do not read another opinion (apart from mine, which is made without making any spoiler) to enjoy even more of this good film and I think it is a good preamble to what will be SCREAM VI.

Con más seguridad veré ahora esta película, los slashers no son mis favoritos, pero a veces les doy oportunidades, y si bien había leído buenas reseñas de esta película, seguía sin confiar, pero leyéndote confío plenamente en que al menos voy a pasar un buen rato viéndola, que es lo importante, si divierte, y además los scare jumps están bien hechos, es mejor que la mayoría.
Yo también había leído alguno que otro tuit, pero es que desde el año pasado he leído muy buenas opiniones sobre este film y anoche la pasé muy bien viendo esta película; cubrió todas las expectativas que tenía.
No sé si vistes el trailer, yo lo ví hasta después de terminar de escribir la reseña y menos mal que hice eso.

No, aún no veo el tráiler, ya no veo nada antes de ver una película o serie, perdí esa costumbre y no me arrepiento, disfruto más lo que veo así.
¡Mejor! Así estoy haciendo yo; prefiero ver algo de la sinopsis, alguna que otra imagen y después esperar.
Ya la busque y la tengo lista para verla, ando un poco cansado y creo que me acostare temprano, pero a mas tardar mañana la veo. otra mas para que la vean los que dicen que el genero esta muerto.
Es muy buena JC, muy divertida y rapida, 80 minutos de duración, me hizo recordar a HOST que es más corta, también usa al covid como base de la historia y fue una grata sorpresa.
Me interesa mucho está película, ya la tengo descargada, pero no he tenido el chance de verla. Parece que posee todos los elementos interesantes para considerarla un buen slasher.
Es buena porque es directa y rápida aunque mantiene todo los clichés de un slasher.
