Un alma debe ser salvada y para eso Dios ha mandado a su más fiel creyente... "Saint Maud"
El terror psicológico es uno de los géneros que más me ha fascinado en los últimos años, la mente humana puede hacernos tener momentos terroríficos y justamente eso hace que estás historias tengan una gran toque de realidad, ya que cualquiera se puede perder entre sus pensamientos y justificar cualquier hecho solo porque cree que lo que hace está bien, estas características que pueda tener un film son lo que más me gusta de ver, demuestra una vulnerabilidad a qué tal vez de una u otra forma, podamos estar involucrados en historias tales como estás.

The psychological horror is one of the genres that has fascinated me the most in recent years, the human mind can make us have terrifying moments and just that makes these stories have a great touch of reality, as anyone can get lost in his thoughts and justify any fact just because he believes that what he does is right, these characteristics that may have a film are what I like to see, it shows a vulnerability to what perhaps in one way or another, we can be involved in stories such as these.
"Saint Maud", película inglesa estrenada en octubre del año pasado nos relata la historia de "Maud", una joven mujer que después de sufrir un grave trauma se convirtió en católica romana, ella es enfermera que ha comenzado a trabajar para un centro de salud privado, su primera asignación es el cuidar de "Amanda", una ex bailarina y coreógrafa que padece de Linfoma estadio 4, ella es una mujer liberal, que ha disfrutado la vida a su manera, pero en sus últimos momentos siente un gran miedo a la muerte, pero ya no deberá sentir más miedo porque Dios ha mandado a su más fiel creyente para salvar su alma.
"Saint Maud", an English film released in October last year tells the story of "Maud", a young woman who after suffering a serious trauma became a Roman Catholic, she is a nurse who has started working for a private health center, her first assignment is to take care of "Amanda", a former dancer and choreographer who suffers from stage 4 Lymphoma, she is a liberal woman, who has enjoyed life in her own way, but in her last moments she feels a great fear of death, but she will no longer have to feel fear because God has sent his most faithful believer to save her soul.
Esta es una de las dos películas de terror estrenadas el año pasado que quería ver, tenía expectativas por el tipo de género de su historia, ya que me atrae este tipo de historias en dónde trata de romper el molde haciendo cosas diferentes dentro del mundo del cine; este film es dirigido por la directora inglesa Rose Glass, este es su primer proyecto, largometraje, tanto como directora y guionista, creo que como directora ha tomado mucha influencia de films como El Exorcista, El Bebé de Rosmery y otros films sobre personajes perseguidos por la fe como por ejemplo Carrie, esto lo digo más que nada porque parece un film hecho en la época en dónde fueron estrenadas las películas antes citadas, Glass crea un grupo de imágenes lúgubres, todas muy enfocadas en su protagonista, muchas en zonas pequeñas, cerradas y hasta donde creo que como espectadores podemos invadir la zona de confort del personaje principal y así poder sentir lo que vive esta mujer; para ser su primer film pienso que ha hecho un gran trabajo.
El guion escrito por la misma Glass es muy bueno, tiene grandes detalles en mostrar no solo como se siente su personaje principal que ha comenzado en creer en la palabra de Dios, que tiene fe de que con lo que la define en este momento de su vida ella está salvada y que puede salvar a otros más, sin duda que el enfoque sobre el fanatismo es algo impresionante en esta historia, yo en lo personal no critico la fe que pueda tener alguien sobre cualquiera religión, pero el fanatismo me molesta, no me gusta, ahora en esta historia veremos a alguien que se hace fanática de la religión, que sobre pasa el límite de lo normal, pero todo eso no me crea repulsión sobre su protagonista ni mucho menos lástima, me crea intriga de cómo alguien puede creer en algo hasta poner en peligro su vida y la de los demás, es ahí donde esta directora y guionista, hace que tengamos una historia real y más que nada que cualquiera puede crearse un propio terror.
This is one of the two horror films released last year that I wanted to see, I had expectations because of the type of genre of its story, as I am attracted to this type of stories where it tries to break the mold by doing different things within the world of cinema; this film is directed by the English director Rose Glass, this is her first project, feature film, both as director and screenwriter, I think that as a director has taken a lot of influence from films like The Exorcist, Rosmery's Baby and other films about characters persecuted by faith as for example Carrie, I say this mostly because it seems a film made at the time where the films mentioned above were released, Glass creates a group of gloomy images, all very focused on its protagonist, many in small, closed areas and even where I believe that as viewers we can invade the comfort zone of the main character and thus perhaps feel what this woman lives, to be his first film I think he has done a great job.
The script written by Glass herself is very good, it has great details in showing not only how her main character feels that she has started to believe in the word of God, that she has faith that with what defines her in this moment of her life she is saved and that she can save others, without a doubt that the focus on fanaticism is something impressive in this story, I personally don't criticize the faith that someone can have about any religion, but fanaticism bothers me, I don't like it, now in this story we will see someone who becomes a fanatic of religion, who goes over the limit of what is normal, but all this does not create repulsion in me about its protagonist, much less pity, it creates intrigue in me about how someone can believe in something to the point of endangering his life and the lives of others, that is where this director and screenwriter, makes us have a real story and more than anything that anyone can create their own terror.
Esta película es sobre una chica y de cómo está lidiando con la fe, justamente esto último es lo que más sorprende y eso es gracias a la actuación de Morfydd Clark, su interpretación de Maud es lo mejor del film, la evolución del personaje es lo que pienso que conecta al espectador a la película, primero vemos la inocencia de cómo se comunica con Dios hasta de ver cómo experimenta cuando siente su presencia, tal vez esto sea algo que hayamos visto alguna vez de como existen personas que se pierden en la fe dejando atrás una vida que se ha quedado en el pasado, Clark se ve muy comprometida con su personaje y no existe ninguna escena en dónde demuestre algún fallo; también debo hablar del trabajo hecho por Jennifer Ehle, tal vez haya alguno que piense que es lo opuesto a Maud, pero Amanda, es alguien muy parecida a la protagonista de esta historia, alguien que no quiere estar sola, pero no teme a decirlo, ella toma cualquier medida para no sentirse de esa manera, sin necesidad de buscar en la religión a un acompañante para sus últimos días, ambas actrices son de lo mejor del film.
This movie is about a girl and how she is dealing with faith, precisely the latter is what is most surprising and that is thanks to the performance of Morfydd Clark, her interpretation of Maud is the best of the film, the evolution of the character is what I think connects the viewer to the film, first we see the innocence of how she communicates with God until we see how she experiences when she feels his presence, maybe this is something that we have seen some time ago of how there are people who are lost in faith leaving behind a life that has remained in the past, Clark looks very committed to her character and there is no scene where she shows any failure; I must also talk about the work done by Jennifer Ehle, maybe there are some who think she is the opposite of Maud, but Amanda, is someone very similar to the protagonist of this story, someone who does not want to be alone, but is not afraid to say it, she takes any measure to not feel that way, without the need to look to religion for a companion for her last days, both actresses are the best of the film.
Me gustó mucho esta película, es una completa tragedia causada por un trauma y que posiblemente un mal uso de la fe la vuelve de terror, uno que podemos ser víctimas en cualquier momento, creo que eso es lo que me gusta de esta historia, su realismo dentro de un film muy directo, con grandes escenas, buena actuación y muy buen guion y más que nada con uno de los mejores finales que he visto, es impactante y aquí resaltó el trabajo de su creadora, Rose Glass nos prepara por más de una hora para disfrutar de un gran cierre. Si tienen la oportunidad y les gusta este género, vean Saint Maud y seguramente la podrán disfrutar como yo.
I really liked this movie, it is a complete tragedy caused by a trauma and that possibly a misuse of faith turns it into terror, one that we can be victims at any time, I think that's what I like about this story, its realism within a very direct film, with great scenes, good acting and very good script and most of all with one of the best endings I've seen, it is shocking and here highlighted the work of its creator, Rose Glass prepares us for more than an hour to enjoy a great closing. If you have the opportunity and you like this genre, watch Saint Maud and you will surely enjoy it as I did.

Llamativa está película, sobre todo por su atmósfera de terror psicológico; las cuales son de mis preferidas. Me llamó la atención de tu crítica, es que mencionas que el largometraje está inspirado en otras películas del pasado de gran influencia en el género, tendré que verla por mí mismo y ver esos aspectos. ¡Saludos! @nameless16
Tiene esa atmósfera de esas películas, es algo que al ver algunas de las escenas inmediatamente las recorde, estoy convencido de que está nueva directora está muy influenciada en ese cine de terror de esos años.
