"I Love This Game!..."

Desde el momento del estreno de este film original de Netflix, protagonizado por Adam Sandler, muchos de mis amistades me invitaban a ver esta película y justamente por todo el hype de amigos y del público en general decidí esperar hasta que por fin tuve el tiempo para ver este drama deportivo. En "Hustle" seguimos la vida de "Stanley Sugerman", él es un scout perteneciente a el equipo de la NBA, the Philadelphia 76ers; su trabajo consigue en viajar por todo el mundo buscando prospectos del baloncesto que puedan irrumpir en el mejor baloncesto del mundo, está es una incansable tarea que lo mantiene alejado de su esposa y adolescente hija, pero su amor por el deporte y la necesidad son los factores por los cuales debe seguir en su búsqueda de una nueva estrella aunque sin olvidar sus propios sueños; en su incansable búsqueda y a pesar de la frustración, por cosas del destino, Sugerman ve jugar a "Bo Cruz" y desde su experiencia sabe que ese será su ticket de regreso a su hogar y para alcanzar su sueño, pero para lograrlo, primeramente deberá ayudar a Cruz a convertirse en un gran jugador en uno que pueda aprovechar las oportunidades y así ambos ser parte de nada más y nada menos de la NBA.

From the moment of the premiere of this Netflix original film, starring Adam Sandler, many of my friends invited me to see this movie and precisely because of all the hype from friends and the general public I decided to wait until I finally had the time to watch this sports drama. In "Hustle" we follow the life of "Stanley Sugerman", he is a scout belonging to the NBA team, the Philadelphia 76ers; his job is to travel around the world looking for basketball prospects that can break into the best basketball in the world, this is a tireless task that keeps him away from his wife and teenage daughter, but his love for the sport and the need are the factors by which he must continue in his search for a new star but without forgetting his own dreams; In his tireless search and despite the frustration, by fate, Sugerman sees "Bo Cruz" playing and from his experience he knows that this will be his ticket back home and to achieve his dream, but to achieve it, he must first help Cruz to become a great player in one that can take advantage of the opportunities and thus both be part of nothing more and nothing less than the NBA.

De las características que vemos en este género deportivo en el cine, sin ninguna duda que en la parte de la dirección se debe enfocar en el entrenamiento y es que si la historia es motivadora, creo que mostrar la etapa de preparación para competir es algo motivador y único en este tipo de films; este tipo de escenas acompañadas con buena música es obligatorio que suceda (como en todas las películas de Rocky) y en esta película sucede gracias al excelente trabajo de su director Jeremiah Zagar, él junto al equipo de edición, crean perfectas escenas en la parte del entrenamiento como en los juegos que debe disputar el personaje de Bo Cruz; este es el importante trabajo de este director porque se enfoca en la visión de quién entrena y del mismo jugador al momento de disputar un juego; su trabajo es muy dinámico y divertido, tiene un gran toque comercial por los diferentes enfoques por ejemplo en momentos en dónde podemos ver una posible renuncia al esfuerzo, pero desde la perfecta motivación se recupera el impulso de terminar un trabajo, eso lo capta Zagar usando su cámara y mejor aún sabe dónde y cuando dar importancia a las diferentes tomas; para mí la dirección, fotografía y edición es parte de lo mejor del film.

Of the characteristics that we see in this sport genre in the cinema, without any doubt that in the part of the direction should focus on training and if the story is motivating, I think showing the preparation stage to compete is something motivating and unique in this type of film; this kind of scenes accompanied with good music is mandatory to happen (as in all Rocky movies) and in this movie it happens thanks to the excellent work of its director Jeremiah Zagar, he together with the editing team, create perfect scenes in the part of the training as in the games that the character of Bo Cruz must dispute; this is the important work of this director because he focuses on the vision of who trains and the same player at the time of disputing a game; his work is very dynamic and fun, has a great commercial touch by the different approaches for example at times where we can see a possible resignation to the effort, but from the perfect motivation recovers the momentum to finish a job, that captures Zagar using his camera and even better knows where and when to give importance to the different shots; for me the direction, photography and editing is part of the best of the film.

El guion fue escrito por Taylor Materne y Will Fetters; el primero en el mundo del cine ha hecho más de productor que de escritor y el segundo co-escribió el guión de "A Star is Born" junto a Cooper y Roth. Materne y Fetters no perdieron ningún detalle que caracteriza a este género dentro del cine; lo tiene todo y es que cumplen con cada cliché, por ejemplo, cuentan con el entrenador experimentado que no pudo nunca ser jugador profesional, tienen al joven jugador, talentosos que deberá mejorar para encajar en un lugar sumamente competitivo, está el rival deportivo a vencer, la desconfianza a los demás al trabajo del entrenador, la cena con la familia y por supuesto una historia del pasado que podrá ser el verdadero rival a vencer; puedo hacer una larga lista sobre cuántas películas cumplen con estas características, pero hay algo que se me hizo fascinante y es que no tratan de hacer algo diferente, ni tan dramático, hasta puedo decir que es realista, pero lo mejor es que está es una historia simple o mejor dicho es sencilla, no esfuerza nada y eso lo agradezco mucho. La historia no es la mejor, pero está lejos de ser la peor o regular, justamente es buena, es divertida, directa, con buen ritmo y perfecta para el formato del cual fue estrenada.

The script was written by Taylor Materne and Will Fetters; the former has been more of a producer than a writer in the film world and the latter co-wrote the screenplay for "A Star is Born" with Cooper and Roth. Materne and Fetters didn't miss any detail that characterizes this genre within the cinema; it has it all and it is that they fulfill every cliché, for example, they have the experienced coach who could never be a professional player, they have the young, talented player who must improve to fit in a highly competitive place, there is the sports rival to beat, the distrust to others to the coach's work, the dinner with the family and of course a story from the past that could be the real rival to beat; I can make a long list about how many movies fulfill these characteristics, but there is something that I found fascinating and that is that they don't try to do something different, not so dramatic, I can even say that it is realistic, but the best thing is that this is a simple story or better said it is simple, it doesn't make any effort and I appreciate that a lot. The story is not the best, but it is far from being the worst or regular, it is just good, it is fun, direct, with good rhythm and perfect for the format in which it was released.

Era justo que alguien que ama tanto al baloncesto cómo Adam Sandler protagonizará este film, en un momento me sorprendió de que el equipo elegido no hubiera sido los Knicks de Nueva York, pero creo que por la historia y todas las personalidades del baloncesto que aparece, era justo que Filadelfia tuviera también protagonismo en esta historia; ahora haciendo referencia de la actuación de Sandler creo que fue perfecta para esta historia, primeramente hay que decir que la historia es sobre él más que sobre el personaje de Bo y por eso es sumamente importante su trabajo en esta historia y cuando hablaba de la sencillez de la historia es porque hago referencia a la interpretación del personaje principal; Sandler como "Sugerman" es un gran trabajo porque demuestra la tensión, conocimiento y experiencia en la materia del baloncesto, pero también demuestra las ganas de enseñar todo lo que sabe y es por eso que vemos un gran cambio de humor desde el momento que es un scout hasta convertirse en un entrenador; eso se percibe del trabajo de Adam en cada escena en dónde puede crear un momento cómico, pero sin el serlo o cuando está más suelto y tranquilo es donde disfrutamos de gran libertad; en realidad me gustó mucho su personaje porque es alguien que de fallos y decepciones puede enseñar a otra persona que pueda disfrutar de su talento y así ayudar a otros. Del trabajo de Juancho Hernangómez jugador español de la NBA, puedo decir que hasta hizo de sí mismo, su trabajo es sencillo, divertido, pero cuando es momento de mostrar rabia y frustración, pienso que lo hizo bien, aunque lo mejor es la gran química que tiene con Adam y por eso funciona su actuación en cada escena.

It was only fair that someone who loves basketball as much as Adam Sandler starred in this film, at one point I was surprised that the team chosen was not the New York Knicks, but I think that because of the story and all the basketball personalities that appear, it was fair that Philadelphia also had a role in this story; now referring to the performance of Sandler I think it was perfect for this story, first of all I have to say that the story is about him more than about Bo's character and that's why his work in this story is extremely important and when I was talking about the simplicity of the story is because I'm referring to the interpretation of the main character; Sandler as "Sugerman" is a great job because he shows the tension, knowledge and experience in the matter of basketball, but he also shows the desire to teach everything he knows and that's why we see a great change of mood from the moment he is a scout to becoming a coach; I really liked his character because he is someone who from failures and disappointments can teach another person who can enjoy his talent and thus help others. Of the work of Juancho Hernangómez Spanish NBA player, I can say that he even played himself, his work is simple, funny, but when it's time to show anger and frustration, I think he did it well, although the best thing is the great chemistry he has with Adam and that's why his performance works in every scene.

Siendo sincero Hustle me sorprendió mucho, tenía pocas expectativas y creo que eso ayudó a que la pasará genial viendo esta historia de como un hombre ama tanto que sabe que está perdiendo el tiempo en tan solo buscar a un jugador talentoso en vez de ayudarlo a mejorar su talento; esto es lo que más me ha gustado porque primeramente entiendo el personaje interpretado por Adam Sandler no quiero decir que soy un excelente basquetbolista o scout y ni mucho menos un entrenador, lo que me refiero es que cuando amas hacer algo y sabe que eres bueno en eso, pienso que siempre está el sueño de enseñar a otros lo que sabes hacer y porque no, ayudarlos y que ellos aprendan de tus conocimientos, está parte de la historia la valoro, aún más que todo lo referente al espectáculo de la NBA y la aparición de leyendas del deporte y futuros "All-Stars". En mi opinión es un film muy bien dirigido, escrito y por supuesto actuado, es un drama muy sencillo y para nada forzado, creo que los momentos cómicos ayudan mucho a la historia, pero justamente las escenas en dónde se explora problemas del pasado que afectan al presente de estos personajes es algo que está bien desarrollo; con todo esto descrito y a pesar de no ser una historia original y que el film está lleno de clichés, puedo decir que Hustle es una de las mejores películas que he visto en este año y si por casualidad no la han visto entonces puedo recomendarla porque es una de las mejores producciones de Netflix en este año.

To be honest Hustle surprised me a lot, I had low expectations and I think that helped me to have a great time watching this story of how a man loves so much that he knows he is wasting his time in just scouting a talented player instead of helping him to improve his talent; this is what I liked the most because first of all I understand the character played by Adam Sandler I don't want to say that I am an excellent basketball player or scout and even less a coach, what I mean is that when you love doing something and he knows you are good at it, I think there is always the dream of teaching others what you know how to do and why not, help them and they learn from your knowledge, I value this part of the story, even more than everything about the NBA show and the appearance of legends of the sport and future "All-Stars". In my opinion it is a very well directed, written and of course acted film, it is a very simple drama and not at all forced, I think the comic moments help a lot to the story, but just the scenes where it explores past problems that affect the present of these characters is something that is well developed; with all this described and despite not being an original story and that the film is full of clichés, I can say that Hustle is one of the best movies I've seen this year and if by chance you have not seen it then I can recommend it because it is one of the best Netflix productions this year.
