En la actual jornada de encuentros organizados por FIFA, en donde se está llevando a cabo el repechaje para cerrar la participación de las selecciones en el mundial de fútbol a disputarse este año, el máximo ente del fútbol por segunda ocasión aprovecha el mes de marzo para organizar lo que ahora se conoce como "FIFA Series" un torneo de tan solo dos jornadas que tiene como participantes a equipos que no serán parte del Mundial; un premio o torneo de consuelo para esas selecciones que fallaron en alcanzar el gran torneo de fútbol y justamente, una de esas selecciones es la de Venezuela que con un nuevo cuerpo técnico liderado en esta oportunidad por Oswaldo Vizcarrondo, enfrenta su segunda jornada de amistosos en dónde nuevamente la convocatoria de jugadores es nueva aunque en esta ocasión se decidió llamar a jugadores relevantes como lo es el anterior capitán y todavía máximo goleador de La Vinotinto.

As part of the current round of matches organized by FIFA—which includes the playoffs to determine the final roster of teams for this year’s World Cup—the sport’s governing body is using the month of March for the second time to host what is now known as the “FIFA Series,” a two-match tournament featuring teams that will not be competing in the World Cup; a consolation prize or tournament for those teams that failed to qualify for the major soccer tournament, and one of those teams is Venezuela, which, with a new coaching staff led this time by Oswaldo Vizcarrondo, is facing its second round of friendlies. Once again, the roster of players is new, although this time it was decided to call up key players such as the former captain and still top scorer of La Vinotinto.
En la primera de las dos jornadas de ese torneo, La Vinotinto de Vizcarrondo enfrentó al combinado de Trinidad y Tobago en el estadio Paxtakor Markaziy de Taskent, Uzbekistán, un encuentro que se llevó a cabo el día de ayer a las 6:00 am, horario en Venezuela, lo cual, al ser un día viernes, posiblemente pocos venezolanos seguirán la participación de la selección, pero la realidad es que la herida causada por la no clasificación al mundial sigue abierta lo cual hace evidente ese rechazo a La Vinotinto; personalmente soy los que piensan que se está aprendiendo de los errores y que el actual entrenador está todavía en búsqueda de la confirmación de un nuevo equipo aunque en esta ocasión se repite la convocatoria de varios jugadores y se está contando con quienes ya estuvieron defendiendo a la seleccion en la fallida participación en la clasificación al mundial, algo que era totalmente esperado porque al final y como dije, se debe aprender de los fallos y se espera que anteriores generaciones ayuden a las nuevas.

On the first of the two matchdays of that tournament, Vizcarrondo’s La Vinotinto faced the Trinidad and Tobago national team at the Paxtakor Markaziy Stadium in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, a match that took place yesterday at 6:00 a.m. Venezuela time; since it was a Friday, it’s likely that few Venezuelans will have followed the team’s performance, but the reality is that the wound caused by failing to qualify for the World Cup remains open, which makes this rejection of La Vinotinto evident; Personally, I am among those who believe that the team is learning from its mistakes and that the current coach is still in the process of building a new squad, although on this occasion several players have been called up again, and the team is relying on those who already played for the national team during the failed World Cup qualifying campaign—something that was entirely expected because, in the end, as I said, one must learn from mistakes, and it is hoped that previous generations will help the new ones.
Venezuela derrotó a su similar de Trinidad y Tobago por un marcador de 4 goles a 1; el segundo tiempo de La Vinotinto demostró superioridad y contundencia, algo que no sucedió en el primer tiempo en dónde de 4 remates hechos, tan solo uno fue con clara ocasión de gol; hay que señalar que el equipo de Vizcarrondo jugó con un tridente de ataque en dónde Alejandro Marqués fue el único delantero; el jugador de tan solo 25 años, llega a solamente 5 encuentros oficiales con la selección venezolana en dónde todavía no a anotado un gol y del cual se le ha criticando de manera demencial por sus pobres actuaciones, recordemos que este jugador que ha militado en las inferiores del FC Barcelona, Juventus y que el día de hoy juega para el Estoril de Portugal no fue tomado en cuenta para el seleccionado dirigido por Batista apesar del pobre desempeño ofensivo de sus delanteros, entre ellos Rondón, pero ahora, en su regreso, se le exige una participación como si se estuviera haciendo referencia a algún jugador que es parte de algún equipo de élite.

Lo peor que le pudo suceder a Marqués en su regreso a La Vinotinto, fue también el regreso de Salo quien al entrar al juego supliendo al joven atacante, consiguiera anotar hasta dos goles que le hizo aumentar su estadística a 50 goles con La Vinotinto, un logro que le hace estar cerca de superar a otros miticos jugadores como son por ejemplo Batistuta y Luis Suárez; justamente esos dos goles de Salo y para muchos, la pobre actuación de Alejandro, generó un debate sobre si se debe todavía depender del actual jugador del Pachuca de México y ser el único referente en la delantera para nuevamente buscar esa clasificación al próximo mundial y que se olviden de buscar un reemplazo porque no hay nadie más, esa opinión fue la que leí mayormente después de finalizar el encuentro y creo que es una manera radical de imponer a un jugador de 36 años que posiblemente debe ser tomado en cuenta hasta la próxima Copa América a disputarse en el 2028.

The worst thing that could have happened to Marqués upon his return to La Vinotinto was also the return of Salo, who, upon entering the game as a substitute for the young forward, managed to score two goals, bringing his total with La Vinotinto to 50—an achievement that puts him on the verge of surpassing other legendary players such as Batistuta and Luis Suárez; It was precisely those two goals by Salo—and, for many, Alejandro’s poor performance—that sparked a debate over whether the team should still rely on the current Pachuca player from Mexico as the sole focal point up front to once again secure qualification for the next World Cup, and forget about looking for a replacement because there’s no one else. Personalmente, no me molesta la inclusión de Salomón Rondón u otro jugador del anterior proceso mundialista; creo que si jugadores están dispuestos a sumar a que la selección de Venezuela dé un paso adelante hacia un mundial, entonces siempre serán bienvenidos, pero existe un gran problema con muchos jugadores venezolanos y eso es el ego; lamentablemente la relevancia que pueden obtener del fútbol, siendo referentes o representantes de nuestro país en sus clubes hace que tengan un estatus y justamente esa relevancia genera un pensamiento y actuación errada por parte de ciertos jugadores que después llevan a la selección y lo cual creo que es un factor en las derrotas, el fracaso y frustración; eso es algo que hay que evitar el volver a experimentar y por eso es necesario de un cambio y con eso no digo que Salo Rondón deba renunciar a la selección, sino en esta ocasión deba demostrar un verdadero liderazgo al querer ayudar a los jóvenes a crecer y es aquí donde en mi opinión creo que está el problema porque actualmente Rondón cuenta con un apoyo brutal de cierto sector de aficionados y en especial de la prensa deportiva los cuales nunca le criticarán nada y alabarán todo, eso alimenta al ego del jugador y le nubla de cumplir con el rol que debería practicar y aunque es cierto que mi opinión puede ser considerada como un simple supuesto, pero en el anterior torneo clasificatorio al mundial, el comportamiento de quienes deben ser considerados como líderes no fue el mejor y eso debe cambiar ahora antes de la disputa de torneo oficiales y es por eso que jugadores como Rondón no deben dar un paso al lado, deben dar uno hacia adelante, participar, seguir creciendo en la historia del fútbol venezolano, pero también ayudar a crecer a los demás y esperemos que eso sea así por el bien de La Vinotinto.

Personally, I don’t mind the inclusion of Salomón Rondón or any other player from the previous World Cup campaign; I believe that if players are willing to help the Venezuelan national team take a step forward toward a World Cup, then they will always be welcome. However, there is a major problem with many Venezuelan players, and that is ego; unfortunately, the prominence they gain from soccer—as role models or representatives of our country at their clubs—gives them a certain status, and it is precisely that prominence that leads to misguided thinking and behavior on the part of certain players who then join the national team, which I believe is a factor in the defeats, failures, and frustration; that is something we must avoid experiencing again, and that is why a change is necessary—and by that I do not mean that Salo Rondón should resign from the national team, but rather that on this occasion he must demonstrate true leadership by helping the young players grow. And this is where, in my opinion, the problem lies, because currently Rondón enjoys overwhelming support from a certain segment of fans and especially from the sports media, who will never criticize him for anything and will praise everything he does. This feeds the player’s ego and clouds his ability to fulfill the role he should be playing. And while it is true that my opinion may be considered a mere assumption, in the previous World Cup qualifying tournament, the behavior of those who should be considered leaders was not the best, and that must change now before the official tournaments begin. That is why players like Rondón must not step aside; they must step forward, participate, continue to grow in the history of Venezuelan soccer, but also help others grow. Let’s hope that is the case for the sake of La Vinotinto.
