Desde el tiempo que he realizado reseñas de películas siempre he pensado que no todo debe ser referente a dar una opinión sobre películas que son un éxito o que estén dentro de un rango de los gustos de cada quién; pienso que en algunos aspectos debe haber un balance, algo en dónde debemos experimentar lo bueno y lo malo y en esta activada de crear reseñas de diferentes producciones debería ser inevitable el ver (en este caso) películas que en realidad no sean buenas o que quien haga la reseña considere que no sea un buen film; justamente en los siete meses que ha transcurrido en el 2022, creo que es la primera vez que he visto una cantidad de películas malas, algunas con el pleno conocimiento de que no me gustarían y otras en dónde me sorprende que ni siquiera cumplan con tan pocas expectativas que pude tener, es por eso que en esta oportunidad me refiero a cuatro films que considero que son parte de las peores películas que he visto en este año.

Since the time I have been reviewing movies I have always thought that not everything should be about giving an opinion about movies that are a success or that are within a range of everyone's tastes; I think that in some aspects there should be a balance, something where we should experience the good and the bad and in this activation of creating reviews of different productions it should be inevitable to see (in this case) movies that are not really good or that whoever is doing the review considers that it is not a good film; precisely in the seven months that have passed in 2022, I think it is the first time that I have seen a number of bad movies, some with the full knowledge that I would not like them and others where I am surprised that they do not even meet so few expectations I could have, that is why this time I refer to four films that I consider to be part of the worst films I have seen this year.

Death on the Nile

El misterio es algo que siempre me ha gustado; en los últimos años he disfrutado de producciones en dónde uno o varios investigadores deberán resolver un crimen y es por eso que sigo dando oportunidades a esta franquicia que cuenta con la dirección de Kenneth Branagh y que también protagoniza al interpretar al gran detective "Hercule Poirot". Este film es la secuela de "Murder on the Orient Express" (2017), la cual no me gustó mucho porque pienso que el desarrollo de la resolución del crimen no fue el mejor, pero a pesar de que este nuevo film basado en las novelas creadas por Agatha Christie contaba nuevamente con la dirección y protagonismo de Branagh y con el guion de Michael Green decidí verla porque pensé que está vez se hiciera mejor muchas cosas, pero lamentablemente eso no sucedió; primeramente está película tuvo un costo de producción mayor que la anterior y en mi opinión su predecesora se vio mucho mejor que este nuevo film el cual por momentos parece una producción televisiva; la calidad del uso del CGI es mala, es pobre y eso la convierte irrisoria; lo segundo es la mala actuación del numeroso cast, en especial el trabajo realizado por Armie Hammer, Gal Gadot, Letitia Wright y Tom Bateman, todos sus personajes son lo peor del film; la sobreactuación de cada uno de estos "actores" hace difícil de ver la película y ahora son ellos los que opaca el trabajo realizado por Branagh. La historia es simple, fácil de seguir y hasta puedo decir que no es aburrida como si pensé que fue el anterior film, pero eso hace que sea predecible y nada entretenida; en momentos se siente exagerada por revelaciones o los giros que da en su historia y pienso que es mucho para un film de dos horas porque no aporta nada y pensaba que si tal vez se desarrolla en una miniserie, seguro que hubiera funcionado. Sé que habrá personas que se sentirán atraídas por la historia como a mí me ocurrió y que habrá algunos que hasta les guste, pero en mi sinceridad diré que esta película no es buena, hay muchos errores, mal casting y solo espero que si deciden hacer una tercera película, entonces que puedan crear un verdadero misterio que resolver.

Mystery is something that I have always liked; in recent years I have enjoyed productions where one or several investigators must solve a crime and that is why I keep giving opportunities to this franchise that has the direction of Kenneth Branagh and that also stars playing the great detective "Hercule Poirot". This film is the sequel to "Murder on the Orient Express" (2017), which I didn't like a lot because I think the development of the crime resolution was not the best, but even though this new film based on the novels created by Agatha Christie counted again with the direction and starring of Branagh and with the script of Michael Green I decided to see it because I thought that this time many things would be done better, but unfortunately that didn't happen; first of all this movie had a higher production cost than the previous one and in my opinion its predecessor looked much better than this new film which at times looks like a TV production; the quality of the use of CGI is bad, it's poor and that makes it laughable; the second thing is the bad acting of the numerous cast, especially the work done by Armie Hammer, Gal Gadot, Letitia Wright and Tom Bateman, all their characters are the worst of the film; the overacting of each of these "actors" makes the film difficult to watch and now they are the ones that overshadow the work done by Branagh. The story is simple, easy to follow and I can even say it's not boring as I thought the previous film was, but that makes it predictable and not entertaining at all; at times it feels overdone by revelations or the twists it takes in its story and I think it's a lot for a two hour film because it doesn't add anything and I thought that if maybe it was developed into a miniseries, it would have worked for sure. I know there will be people who will be drawn to the story as I was and there will be some who even like it, but in my honesty I will say that this film is not good, there are a lot of mistakes, bad casting and I just hope that if they decide to make a third film then that they can create a real mystery to solve.

Firestarter

En mi niñez, a mediados o a finales de los años 80' en la TV nacional transmitían una película en dónde una niña podía lanzar bolas de fuego tan solo enfocando su mirada hacia cualquier objetivo; mucho tiempo después supe que esta película era basada en una novela creada por Stephen King y solo pensé que está era otra producción que como otras, nunca supo cómo transmitir en la pantalla grande lo que crea King en sus novelas. Así como nunca me sentí atraído por el primer film basado de esta historia, no tenía planeado ver esta nueva versión, pero en esta oportunidad me atrajo algunas críticas negativas sobre esta producción y por eso decidí ver un film que es parte de una gran cantidad de producciones con gran potencial, pero con un gran desarrollo; antes de proseguir diré que nunca he leído la novela y tampoco volví a ver el film de los 80' y así no compararlas con esta nueva versión. Cuando me refiero al potencial de esta historia es sobre cómo decidieron crear un ambiente al rededor de "Charlie" para que cada vez más vaya descubriendo sus poderes; me pareció perfecto hacerla una niña entrando a la adolescencia y que debe lidiar con malos padres paranoicos por ser víctimas de experimentos, pero también que son en parte culpables por el bullying que sufre este personaje en la escuela porque no la hacen sentir normal, con eso creo que estaba todo bien, pero el problema va con el segundo y el acto final del film los cuales son malos porque exageran en el uso de las conveniencias en una historia; lo otro es que los llamados villanos no tienen una gran interpretación, pienso que Zac Efron pudo mostrar más desespero, paternidad y locura en muchos momentos porque pienso que su personaje era sumamente importante y no cumplió en nada de eso, lo otro fue los otros villanos que tampoco fueron importantes y también puedo dejar atrás la producción que la hace ver cómo una producción televisiva de justamente los 80' y eso por muy poco presupuesto que se tenga, pienso que se debió hacer un mejor trabajo; existe otro gran problema de este film y es que se pensaba en desarrollar una franquicia y ese es un grave problema en la actualidad con respecto al mundo del cine, siempre he creído que es mejor hacer una buena primera película y después de ahí pensar que más se puede explorar en esa historia.

In my childhood, in the mid to late 80's on national TV they aired a movie where a girl could throw fireballs just by focusing her gaze to any target; long time later I learned that this movie was based on a novel created by Stephen King and I just thought that this was another production that like others, never knew how to transmit on the big screen what King creates in his novels. Just as I was never attracted to the first film based on this story, I had no plans to see this new version, but in this opportunity I was attracted by some negative reviews about this production and so I decided to see a film that is part of a lot of productions with great potential, but with a great development; before going on I will say that I have never read the novel and I also never saw again the 80's film and so I did not compare it with this new version. When I refer to the potential of this story is about how they decided to create an environment around "Charlie" so that more and more she discovers her powers; I thought it was perfect to make her a girl entering adolescence and that she must deal with bad parents paranoid about being victims of experiments, but also that they are partly to blame for the bullying that this character suffers at school because they do not make her feel normal, with that I think it was all right, but the problem goes with the second and the final act of the film which are bad because they exaggerate the use of conveniences in a story; the other thing is that the so called villains don't have a great interpretation, I think that Zac Efron could have shown more desperation, paternity and madness in many moments because I think his character was extremely important and he didn't fulfill any of that, the other thing was the other villains that were not important either and I can also leave behind the production that makes it look like a television production of the 80's and that for very little budget that it has, I think that a better job should have been done; There is another big problem with this film and that is that it was thought to develop a franchise and that is a serious problem nowadays with respect to the world of cinema, I have always believed that it is better to make a good first film and then think about what else can be explored in that story.

The Princess

Tener un film de acción liderado por una mujer es algo que siempre me ha llamado la atención, personajes como Sarah Connor y Repley las tengo en los más alto como grandes heroínas del cine y creo que la actualidad es algo que se debería ver aún más; lo antes descrito fue lo que me llevó a ver esta película que se estrenó en la plataforma de Hulu (Starplus para Latinoamérica) hace semanas atrás, una historia que fue promocionada cómo si el gran film de acción, "The Raid", estuviera protagonizada por una princesa y no solo eso, ya que la protagonista se le comparó con el personaje de "Hit-Girl" del film "Kick-Ass"; con todo esto era claro que la acción no faltaría en esta historia porque sería lo que mayor peso tendría y seguramente eso haría que no se prestará atención a todo lo demás, pero está película no tiene una buena historia, ni mucho menos grandes escenas de acción para comprarlas con las otras dos películas que he citado. The Princess así como Firestarter y otras películas más, son producciones con gran potencial, pero mal desarrollo; primero la historia no es original para nada, pero eso no importa mucho, ya que lo importante es las escenas de acción y a pesar de la gran actuación de su protagonista, Joey King, quien realizó la mayoría de las escenas de combate, pienso que la dirección y coreografía de las peleas no fue la mejor, en muchas de estas se veía que se esperaba para realizar movimientos y eso empañaba la escena y tal vez por el poco presupuesto, no se podía esperar o usar más tiempo en repetirlas y con tan pocas tomas, la escena quedaba dentro del film; otra cosa es las actuaciones de los villanos; empecemos por Dominic Cooper quien es el antagonista principal; su actuación es la peor porque es repetitiva, es la misma que hizo en "Dracula Untold" y en "Need for Speed" (sí, he visto esas películas), él no aporta nada y es un villano sumamente aburrido, también puedo decir que Olga Kurylenko hace de un mal papel de villana, tampoco aporta nada y es que ninguno de los dos hace nada para que sus personajes puedan ser algo destacable en el film, pero lo peor es lo sobreactuado de los extras; esos personajes que deben tener poco tiempo en escena, pero que el director y guionista decidió darle algunos malos diálogos fue lo que menos me gustó. Me parece que este film pudo ser mejor, el director vietnamita Le-Van Kiet quien dirigió "Furie" película de acción que relata la historia de una mujer que debe rescatar a su hija de sus secuestradores; ese film es más pequeño, con menos presupuesto y es sumamente mejor que The Princess y por eso considero que este nuevo film es peor porque era una oportunidad para darse a conocer en América como un director de acción y lamentablemente fue parte de una producción en dónde se tomaron muy malas decisiones que seguramente afectaron su trabajo.

Having an action film led by a woman is something that has always caught my attention, characters like Sarah Connor and Repley I have them at the top as great heroines of cinema and I think that today is something that should be seen even more; the above described was what led me to see this movie that was released on the Hulu platform (Starplus for Latin America) weeks ago, a story that was promoted as if the great action film, "The Raid", was starring a princess and not only that, since the protagonist was compared to the character of "Hit-Girl" from the film "Kick-Ass"; with all this it was clear that the action would not be missing in this story because it would be what would have more weight and surely that would make you not pay attention to everything else, but this film does not have a good story, much less great action scenes to buy them with the other two films that I have mentioned. The Princess as well as Firestarter and other movies, are productions with great potential, but bad development; first the story is not original at all, but that does not matter much, since the important thing is the action scenes and despite the great performance of its protagonist, Joey King, who performed most of the combat scenes, I think the direction and choreography of the fights was not the best, in many of these it was seen that he was waiting to perform movements and that tarnished the scene and perhaps because of the low budget, you could not wait or use more time to repeat them and with so few shots, the scene was within the film; another thing is the performances of the villains; let's start with Dominic Cooper who is the main antagonist; his performance is the worst because it's repetitive, it's the same he did in "Dracula Untold" and "Need for Speed" (yes, I've seen those movies), he doesn't contribute anything and is an extremely boring villain, I can also say that Olga Kurylenko plays a bad villain, she doesn't contribute anything either and neither of them do anything to make their characters something remarkable in the film, but the worst is the overacting of the extras; those characters that should have lit

Spiderhead

Si existe películas de las cuales no me creó expectativas, esas son las originales de Netflix; siempre he definido a estas producciones que están hechas con una finalidad de entretener, no descubro nada con lo que acabo de escribir, pero pienso que la finalidad de varios films que se estrenan en el año es para que las personas inscritas en este servicio puedan pasar un buen rato desde la comodidad de sus hogares; ahora no todas estas películas son buenas, algunas son regulares, malas y muy malas; justamente este film dirigido por Joseph Kosinski conocido por films cómo: "Tron: Legacy" y la muy exitosa "Top Gun: Maverick" es un film que a principio se puede considerar como regular y después termina como uno malo y es que no había visto como una idea, puede pasar de ser (otra vez) tener un gran potencial a ser un desastre de una manera tan rápida. Está historia es basada en una historia corta llamada "Escape from Spiderhead" escrita por George Saunders y en esta historia relata como un hombre con un gran sentimiento de culpa y que es parte de un experimento en dónde deberá decidir si personas desconocidas deban sufrir los efectos de un fármaco; está historia más que nada es sobre la moralidad, sobre el perdón y pienso que este debió ser el tema desarrollado en este film, todo enfocado completamente en el personaje de Jeff interpretado por Miles Teller y no tanto en el de "Steve Abnesti" que fue interpretado por Chris Hemsworth; este es uno de los principales problemas de esta película, enfocarse en la mega estrella en vez del verdadero personaje de la historia y desde ahí es que todo se arruina porque desarrollar escenas sin ninguna importancia solo por tener escenas de Hemsworth, privó en crear escenas que desarrollen el tema principal de este film; todos los cambios, las malas decisiones son lo que hacen que esta película sea una de las peores que he visto porque no hay nada que demostrar, no hay nada en dónde puede hacer conexión y puedo decir que entre estas cuatro películas que conforman está publicación, es esta la que tiene peor guion y sin hablar de la actuación de Hemsworth quien trata de imitar su trabajo hecho en "Bad Times at the El Royale" que para mí es lo mejor que ha hecho como actor.

If there are films of which I did not create expectations, those are the Netflix originals; I have always defined these productions that are made with a purpose to entertain, I do not discover anything with what I just wrote, but I think the purpose of several films that are released in the year is so that people enrolled in this service can have a good time from the comfort of their homes; now not all these films are good, some are regular, bad and very bad; just this film directed by Joseph Kosinski known for films how: "Tron: Legacy" and the very successful "Top Gun: Maverick" is a film that at first can be considered as regular and then ends up as a bad one and is that I had not seen how an idea, can go from being (again) have a great potential to be a disaster in such a fast way. This story is based on a short story called "Escape from Spiderhead" written by George Saunders and in this story he tells how a man with a great feeling of guilt and who is part of an experiment where he must decide if unknown people should suffer the effects of a drug; this story is mostly about morality, about forgiveness and I think this should have been the theme developed in this film, all focused entirely on the character of Jeff played by Miles Teller and not so much on the character of "Steve Abnesti" who was played by Chris Hemsworth; this is one of the main problems of this movie, focusing on the mega star instead of the real character of the story and from there is that everything is ruined because developing scenes without any importance just to have scenes of Hemsworth, deprived in creating scenes that develop the main theme of this film; all the changes, the bad decisions are what make this film one of the worst I have seen because there is nothing to show, there is nothing where it can make a connection and I can say that among these four films that make up this release, this is the one with the worst script and not to mention the performance of Hemsworth who tries to imitate his work done in "Bad Times at the El Royale" which for me is the best thing he has done as an actor.

Sé que estás no serán las únicas películas malas que veré en este año, seguro habrá muchas otras más porque la curiosidad de verificar si una producción se merece tantas críticas negativas es algo que no puedo detener y por eso siempre veré este tipo de producciones y al hacerle reseñas puedo decir que es terapéutico porque se drena no odio al realizar críticas sobre un trabajo deficiente y esto hace apreciar mucho más el bien trabajo de otros films que muchas veces pasan desapercibidos.

I know that these will not be the only bad movies I will see this year, there will surely be many more because the curiosity to verify if a production deserves so many negative reviews is something I can't stop and that's why I will always watch this kind of productions and by reviewing them I can say that it is therapeutic because it drains not hate when making reviews about a poor work and this makes me appreciate much more the good work of other films that many times go unnoticed.
