The Philosophy of My Creative Process: When the Inner Iron Fails to Turn On

Hello everyone. This morning, I had a whole mountain of postponed plans in my head. But the morning turned out completely different, and the whole day suddenly took on entirely new colors.

It all started when my iron stopped heating up. I have another, newer one, but this 20-year-old Tefal is my absolute favorite. So, I grabbed my old friend and ran to the repair shop. And what do you think? At the repairman's place, the iron obediently started working, the yellow light came on, and it came to life! Back at home, I had specifically plugged it into different sockets just to double-check...
"We often have this happen—people bring in 'broken' appliances, we plug them in, and everything works," the silver-haired lady at the shop laughed.
"Well, that's great!" I replied. "If anything happens, I’ll visit you again with my moody iron. I love it so much."

Walking back home, I got to thinking. Since the beginning of September, I’ve been living in a wild, beautiful flow. One after another, various crafts appeared from under my hands, and this state of absolute concentration and euphoria seemed endless. When you create something amazing, it feels like your batteries are recharged by the process itself.

But today, when my iron failed to turn on this morning, I realized: I failed to turn on in exactly the same way.

I realized that I was actually tired of doing everything, and even my favorite things were becoming a burden. It arrived—creative burnout. Often this happens because you plan to do a certain amount of work, you do it joyfully, but another task immediately appears on the horizon. When one project follows another without a pause, you stop seeing time limits. This endless marathon without a finish line is what drains you the most. The weekend is approaching, a time when I am usually used to being at work no matter what, but this time feels different.

In the past, I would start blaming myself during moments like this. I would look at the unfinished motanka dolls waiting for my hands, think about household chores, and punish myself for the lack of enthusiasm. It felt like I had to justify my "weakness" to the world.

Today, I am telling myself: stop. I am no longer making excuses.

Creativity is not an assembly line. It is a living cell that grows and divides only when the conditions are right. You cannot constantly exhale without taking a breath. For three weeks in a row, I gave my energy, my time, and a piece of my soul to every single item. And today, my body and my brain are rightfully demanding silence. I just want to wrap myself in a blanket, stay in absolute quiet, and not touch a single thing in the world. And that is perfectly okay.

I am planning a rest for myself. Absolutely guilt-free. I am allowing myself to just be, to observe, and to gather strength. My inner creator has gone into reboot mode. I know it will return with new ideas as soon as the reservoir refills. As for the motanka dolls, they will wait for the moment when I can pour true, living inspiration into them.

How do you deal with this emotional rollback after big projects? Do you know how to notice in time that your "inner iron" has overheated, and allow yourself to rest without remorse?

Wow, more than two decades! Your iron must be really well-made. Maybe you’re also really good at taking care of your things because it has lasted that long. And perhaps the brand itself is also known for its durability.

Well, it’s always better to take a break after everything we’ve been doing. It’s not about wasting time or being lazy; it’s about giving ourselves time to recharge. That way, when we get back to what we need to do, we’re fully recharged, not just physically, but mentally as well.

So, don’t feel guilty about taking a break. It’s something we do for our own well-being. If we want to keep going and stay balanced, we need to make time for the things that matter, not just work, but also our family and, of course, ourselves.

Thank you—it’s really nice to read that wanting to take a break is normal. As for the iron, I’ve actually had it repaired before, which is how I know where the repair shop is. Thanks for your comment.
