Hi to all. For several days, I have been going over in my head what I saw in the museum of the prison on Lonsky. Today, our struggle with you for the existence of the Ukrainian language and nation continues. It continues because they have come to kill us again for our melodious Ukrainian language, to steal our culture and pass it off as their own, to kill us for our symbols: the flag and coat of arms. This has already happened more than once on our land.
One bright day, I did dare to go to the prison, where they tortured and killed Ukrainians, historians, publicists, people who persistently promoted Ukrainian traditions. It is thanks to their efforts that we have our language and culture. Now I understand why there is a monument to the victims of the communist regime right next to the prison.

As it turned out, I came during my lunch break and had to wait. I passed by the high wall of the prison. Behind this wall should be the courtyard of this prison. There are three-story houses opposite. And on the facade of one house I saw a face. It was impressive, because the face looked directly at the prison yard. I still had some time, so I read the story of this house number 4. This house was bought by the father of the murdered girl. His daughter was killed by two criminals who were caught and put in this prison. Therefore, the father ordered to make the face of his daughter on the roof of the house, which will look at her offenders when they are walking in the prison yard. This is what it looks like. I have never seen this before. I have never been to such a prison either. Although a few years ago I visited the concentration camp in Auschwitz.

Exactly at 2 p.m., the doors opened and I got into the middle of the prison. Curiosity and fear filled me at the same time. The woman who works in this museum offered me a tour, but I refused. I thought, what kind of life karma does she have to work in a prison, although not an active one. It is a free museum, but it is not known if it will be here in the future. I found out that the director of the museum is now at the front, and his work contract was not renewed. That part of the museum's premises is slowly being taken over by another state institution. Excavations began in the prison yard a few years ago. They are not allowed there now. Only part of the first floor is open to visitors. Everything remained in the same condition in which these prison premises reached us.

The door leading to the detention center. Nearby is a room for examining prisoners. Everything is connected by narrow corridors. I was very scared to walk through this creepy corridor, even during the day. I felt strong negative energy with every step I took. I really wanted to get out of there as soon as possible, but my goal was to go to the exhibition of embroidery, which was embroidered by prisoners with fish bones. It was in this prison in Lviv, as well as in hundreds of similar prisons throughout the country, that the horrors of the occupation regimes took place. This is the largest former prison in Western Ukraine.

The original daily routine of the prisoners was preserved attached to one of the walls. Also, every one and a half meters on the wall there is an alarm button for calling reinforcements during non-standard situations.

Here, to the right of the corridor, there are solitary cells and death cells. This door with an open window looks so scary. I was very afraid to look through this small window in the prison cell.

Next is a large room. Nearby is a locked door to the yard. The walls are filled with information about famous Ukrainians who were imprisoned for a certain period because of their political beliefs. Vyacheslav Chornovil, Ihor and Iryna Kalynets, Levko Lukyanenko, Ivan Gel, Zoryan Popadyuk, Stefania Shabatura were among the bright representatives.

Here is the prison yard lined with such tiles. They were brought from the Jewish cemetery from burials in the Yanivskogma cemetery. Thereby destroying Jewish burial grounds during the Second World War. They say that the Germans took granite and marble slabs out of the country, and buried concrete slabs in roads and squares. Therefore, parts of Jewish monuments were found in many parts of the city during the renovation.

The room for hygienic procedures of prisoners terrifies me.

The next room open to visitors is the "investigator's room". Here, too, everything remained in the state in which the occupiers had left these premises.

The house occupies three floors and a basement. During the day, the prisoners were forced to obey the daily routine, and in the evening, interrogations and coercion to confess their guilt were held in the basement. All these premises are soaked with the blood and tears of invincible Ukrainians, as well as Jews and Poles.

The next open door led me to the photo lab room. This room has existed since Polish times. Here, upon admission, three photographs were taken of each prisoner, full-face, profile, and three-quarter length.

Lists of executed people are displayed on the walls. This prison was a "death machine" in the hands of the totalitarian regime of the communist government.
Not all people who survived torture in this prison can cross the threshold of this house again.

I am sure that such terrible monuments of history should be in order for us to continue our struggle against the occupation of our territory. I think that high school should study this part of history in a mandatory mode.
No one on our earth will be good for us. At first, the Poles created a prison on Lonsky, later the communists used it for their own repression of the population, and the Germans during the occupation arranged their ideologies. This has happened more than once or twice in the history of Ukraine. Ukrainians have the strength and intelligence to resist the repetition of mass shootings, murders and torture.

In the following rooms, the prisoners' belongings, which were kept by their relatives, are exhibited. They have become certain relics that are passed down from generation to generation, telling the true terrible story of each of them.

I saw these embroidered icons. These are incredible works. Imagine that women and men embroidered with fishbones without patterns and special training.
I want to talk about each embroidered icon and museum exhibits in the next post. Thematic exhibitions are also periodically held here.
Thank you all for your attention. I had a really hard time writing this post. It is scary for me to understand that now there is a war in Ukraine and another occupation. I understand that such prisons operate even today, that thousands of people will remain missing again, killed and tortured.

This place is really big to be a prison but I love the pictures you have shared. Also, I wonder why the entrance to this museum is free
I’m sure you were able to learn a few things there

Hi, yes, it is a free museum. But there are few people who want to visit this museum. This is what the government of my city decided, I don't know otherwise.
Thank you for your interest in my post.
