This is my post for #freewriters Monday prompt botanicals hosted by @mariannewest

Dicky was an old fisherman and once he told me that when you see these round clouds coming from the west, you had better keep an eye on the weather, it will turn bad. He called them Hells Balls. He was not wrong, every time that I have seen them, we get bad weather.

We could not believe it when we came from under the bridge and there was not another commercial boat in sight. We went to Miners Island and were talking about if we should try to see something or just anchor, no sooner than I said let's just anchor a pompano skipped beside our boat. I could see a small school of some sort of fish milling around, so I threw my line in the middle of them, as soon as it hit the water, I had one on. I finally got the 6-pound jack in the boat, I did not want them, they are not worth much.

Then I did a stupid thing, I picked it up by the tail to put it on ice. It jerked and the sharp ridge on its tail section sliced my finger.

I was mad because I knew better than to do that. It also hurts. This evening it is swollen and hard to bend.

This is the SOB who cut me.

My husband was no help, he says, damn the first fish of the week and you get hurt. I had many words in my head for him but kept them there.
My husband caught a pompano but it was the only one we caught there. We moved offshore and did not catch any. We moved inshore and my husband lost 2 at the side of the boat. He was doing a lot of cussing and I knew better than to say anything.
We went across the river to Long Point but did not see anything so came back to the west shore. We anchored not far from the bridge. The first fish my husband lost, this time he went into an outrage, I should have kept quiet but when he said he just can't have a day without getting mad. I piped up and said, you are not happy unless you have something to gripe about. I knew as soon as I said it that I shouldn't have, but it was too late. I sat quietly and let him get over his pissiness.

Dicky's Hells Balls had turned into on huge black cloud so we had to come in.

We ended up catching 15 pompano that weighed 32 pounds.

There is a place in Vero Beach that when I was in grade school we would go to for field trips. It was called McKees Jungle Gardens, it had all sorts of animals, the monkeys ran loose. It was a nice place to visit. Now they do not have any animals and they changed the name to Mc Kees botanicals Garden. It is still very beautiful but not really a place that kids would enjoy. If you would like to see what they have, here is the link to it,

Hell's Bells ... cumulus clouds growing upward into cumulonimbus ... in warm climates, Dicky is ALWAYS going to be right about that because warm moist air is always going to develop them ... San Francisco does not see that configuration often, but, in the spring, I have seen them and Dicky is STILL right ...

McKee's looks like a lovely place to visit...

I think any cloud build in the west in summer will turn into a thunderstorm, lol but yes, Dicky is right. Yes McKee's is a peaceful place, it used to be a lot of fun.
