The Bridge on the river of Padma is about to open! Yes, the dream of millions of people in the other part of the river is about to open in July 2022. It took a while and costs a huge amount of money (USD 3.868 Billion) but it's really worth it.

This is the largest bridge in the country which is about 6.15 kilometers and covers a 12-kilometer approach road. There will be 22 meters wide deck as a highway on the upper part of the bridge and the lower or inner part of the bridge will have a single-track dual gauge railway. As per the project website, overall project progress is 84% to date.Reference

In 2021 during the COVID-19 restriction more than 10 million people (data as per mobile sim user!) left Dhaka to celebrate Eid (one of the major holidays of the nation) and among them, a huge percentage of people crosses the river by small boat with huge risk, I have seen an incident in the news where people died due to ferry miss management. The bridge is most required for the people of the country, especially the people who live in the grater Barishal, Faridpur and other divisions of so-called other parts of the river while you seating in Dhaka.

Generally, when I visit my home and take the Mawa route, I do use a speed boat to cross the river as it is quick and enjoyable but risky during the rainy season. The current and wave of Padma are well known to the people of the country and people in the globe know about the river.

I hope to share the first-ever journey by road by the Padma Multipurpose Bridge, cannot tell you how happy I am to think about the journey to home which would take 3-4 hours only instead of 13-14 hours miserable journey.

Thanks for your time and hope to see you soon!
