Eco-Friendly and Child-Friendly Elementary School

An elementary school is a 2nd home for children. Beside their house, they are more often found at school 5 days a week. That's why Teachers are being called as a second Mother. They are still children, they are still growing, mentally and physically. Educating themselves at the same time learning about what is life outside is necessary. Aside from the lectures at school, children should have the time to play with other children.

An eco-friendly and child-friendly school is the perfect environment for most children. They will have time to play when the school is over or when it’s time for break. Don’t teach them to shut it themselves or be alone while they are still a child. It will affect their personality when they grow old. For someone who doesn’t know how to socialize is a serious problem as of these days. We often heard or learned news about how many teenagers decided not to live any much longer. So the place they’d be while they are still growing is very important for children not to misunderstand life when it gets harder.

Yes, a couple of rooms are required for many students attending at school. A school campus should be wide and long. We just don’t need classrooms in schools. If I recall how we were during my elementary days, of course decades already had passed. We had gardens at the back of our school and every block of garden was taken care of by a group of students. It was not just fun, it taught us how to grow plants and had ideas on how to take care of plants. Obviously, there were lessons behind it and meaning.

Gardens taught us about working but a playground taught us how to make friends while playing. Yes, in our school there was a playground which I think was approximately 20 x 60 square meters. As of today, I see that the playground is still there but unfortunately not the whole area is vacant. There are establishments being built, the playground got smaller as days went by. I’m afraid in the future that it might be removed because of the space needed when the population of students gets higher.

However, there was an elementary school I recently visited, in fact it happened just yesterday. My visit was for personal purposes but let me tell you how beautiful the environment of this school was. It’s true that the school was just a small one, like some teachers handling multi-grade students. “Multi-grade” means one room but two or three year level of students. Even so, despite the hardships of the teachers handling many students. I could see how happy the children and teachers were too. They have time for playing with other children while teachers relax themselves breathing and watching the soothing nature.

The playground is in the center of the campus. It is surrounded with rooms that when you go out in every room, just a few walks you will be at the playground. That’s why students can witness how fun it will be when playing with other children. Who wouldn’t want to play during free time when it’s within your sight? We all know how a child would feel when seeing another child having fun while playing. I’m not saying children should always play but what I’m trying to say is that children need it together in growing up.

Also, the environment there is amazing. Considering that it can be found in the province, not all schools are surrounded with beautiful nature. Unlike this elementary school in Calagitan, nature is everywhere. The big and wide rice field is what caught me the most. Well it’s my personal reason but we all know how amazing it is to see a rice field, right? A wide and long view with its fresh air.

Oh by the way, let’s not forget the hard worker teachers with their Head Teacher. I could tell despite a man in gender, he's very passionate in fulfilling the needs of the students and teachers. For me, he’s a true 2nd father there, like an ideal teacher. He even has good relationships with the parents and the community. I know there are more to reveal about his good deeds as a Headteacher but for now that’s all I know so far.

All I'm saying is to let the children enjoy their youth while studying lessons they need to learn. A healthy mind a body can have will encourage them to study. They will be inspired and be motivated in going to school because it feels like they're just at home. They have friends to play with even though they're studying. Let them understand that going to school is not a burden or a responsibility they need to acquire. Instead, enlighten them that a school is a place always fun to be at.
