May Cross at the School by @morenaluna

Saludos y feliz día amigos de #hive. Me place estar de vuelta con ustedes una vez más, en la que espero sea una semana llena de bendiciones. Por fallas en el internet donde vivo no he podido estar con ustedes como me gustaría, sin embargo en la medida de lo posible seguiré compartiendo parte de mis vivencias como mamá y apoyándolos leyendo y comentando sus publicaciones.

Aunque ya empezó el mes de junio no quiero dejar de mostrarles un poco de lo que fue la celebración de la Cruz de mayo en la escuela donde estudian mis hijos. Una fiesta que en Venezuela se celebra a partir del 3 de Mayo y que durante todo ese mes se suele ensalzar.

El velorio de la Cruz de Mayo es una tradición cultural religiosa que se celebra en varios países de América incluyendo Venezuela, donde su principal motivos de celebración es la llegada de la temporada de lluvias, lo que implica bonanza y prosperidad en las cosechas.

Como mis hijos forman parte del coro escolar los escogieron para realizar uno de los cantos a la cruz y les indicaron que debían ir vestidos con trajes típicos, que en este caso se trata de pantalón beige, camisa blanca y sombrero de cogollo en los varones y traje de joropera para las niñas.

El atuendo de Mariana fue el más difícil de conseguir, pues no es habitual tener uno de estos trajes en casa a menos que tu hija baile en una compañía de danza, je,je, pero gratamente conseguí en el camino una buena samaritana que accedió a prestarme el suyo, mientras que José llevó su camisa escolar y un pantalón beige, solo le faltó el sombrero porque no lo teníamos.

La actividad dió inicio con el canto de una fulia y la subida de la cruz, que generalmente se elabora con madera y es pintada de color caoba. La misma es bailada y subida a un altar cubierto con una tela blanca y adornado con muchas flores coloridas, naturales o elaboradas con papel crepé.

Luego tocó el turno de los galerones, estos cantos son una especie de declamación donde a los intérpretes se les suele asignar un nombre que los distinga de los demás, a Mariana le tocó ser la Paraulata Cantora y a José el Loro Criollo. El instrumento musical que los acompañó fue el cuatro, también suelen emplearse maracas, tambores y el bajo de caja, pero en la escuela no cuentan con los mismos.

En total fueron ocho niños quienes animaron el encuentro con sus cantos, actividad que estuvo seguida por el baile de Joropo, otra de las tradiciones propias de esta fiesta tradicional de Venezuela.

También es habitual comer y beber los dulces y bebidas típicas de la región, por lo que con apoyo de los representantes todos los presentes pudieron disfrutar de Carato de mango y besos de coco.

Así como se sube la cruz también se bebe bajar, pero esa parte le correspondía a los alumnos del turno de la tarde, así que hasta aquí esta historia que muestra un poco de la cultura de mi tierra y de los pasos de mis pequeños en el mundo de la música.

Due to failures in the internet where I live I have not been able to be with you as I would like, however, as far as possible I will continue sharing part of my experiences as a mom and supporting you by reading and commenting on your publications.

Although the month of June has already begun, I want to show you a little of what was the celebration of the Cross of May in the school where my children study. A holiday that in Venezuela is celebrated from May 3 and that during that month is usually extolled.

The May Cross vigil is a religious cultural tradition that is celebrated in several countries of America including Venezuela, where its main reason for celebration is the arrival of the rainy season, which implies bonanza and prosperity in the crops.

As my children are part of the school choir, they were chosen to perform one of the songs to the cross and they were told that they should be dressed in typical costumes, which in this case are beige pants, white shirt and hat cogollo in boys and joropera costume for girls.

Mariana's outfit was the most difficult to get, because it is not usual to have one of these costumes at home unless your daughter dances in a dance company, heh, heh, but pleasantly I got on the way a good Samaritan woman who agreed to lend me hers, while Jose wore his school shirt and beige pants, only the hat was missing because we did not have it.

The activity began with the singing of a fulia and the raising of the cross, which is usually made of wood and painted in mahogany color. The cross is danced and raised to an altar covered with a white cloth and decorated with many colorful flowers, natural or made with crepe paper.

Then it was the turn of the galerones, these songs are a kind of declamation where the interpreters are usually assigned a name that distinguishes them from the others, Mariana had to be La Paraulata Cantora and José the Loro Criollo. The musical instrument that accompanied them was the cuatro; maracas, drums and the box bass are also used, but the school does not have them.

In total there were eight children who animated the meeting with their songs, an activity that was followed by the Joropo dance, another of the traditions of this traditional Venezuelan celebration.

It is also customary to eat and drink the typical sweets and beverages of the region, so with the support of the representatives all those present were able to enjoy Carato de mango and coconut kisses.

Just as the cross is climbed up the cross also drinks down, but that part corresponded to the students of the afternoon shift, so until here this story that shows a little of the culture of my land and the steps of my children in the world of music.
