Good and bad things in the garden, not everything is happiness.

Every day I have to check my garden, to see the good things and the bad things too, I must say that the Astrophytum have become a real passion and although at the moment I don't have large specimens full of flowers, they are the ones that brighten my day, I really love this species.

Now let's start with the bad things, this Gymno was a gift from my friend at the nursery, I grafted it and although it hasn't died it hasn't grown or developed pups either, I guess I will have to re-graft to see if it gets better.

Remember this micro graft? It is growing very well, it was a good experiment.

The bad thing comes when you look at the rootstock, apparently the pitahaya was too deep in the ground or I have watered more than necessary because it started to rot, I will see what happens in the next few days because I have seen that they can survive like this, leaving the vascular bundle as the stick of a popsicle, so this is the experiment within the experiment.

Another bad news was to see these two Myrtillocactus, two weeks ago I put them on substrate to root them and instead they rotted, the others are fine only these two decided to die.

Now we come to the good stuff, I still have Mammillarias flowers in the garden, it's not time but they look beautiful!

IMG_20221214_111534.jpg

My grafted peyote keeps growing, slow but growing, it is another genus that I really love and I feel that I still have a lot to learn.

IMG_20221214_111602.jpg

By the way I am doing micro grafts of peyote on Myrtillocactus and they are doing great.

IMG_20221214_111717.jpg

This pot is Astrophytum Asterias Shinshowa, I have already grafted some although I am not satisfied with the result, I decided that I will leave these on their roots at least until March and then I will decide if I will graft them as well, it is a beautiful flowering species so I do care that they grow fast.

IMG_20221214_111621.jpg

And speaking of Asterias, in the last seedlings that I made a few chlorotic ones came out, I grafted them on pereskiopsis to see if I can rescue them, some people consider chlorotic ones as garbage because it is very easy for them to die, for me it is part of a good experiment and personal challenge.

IMG_20221214_111859.jpg

Now speaking of chlorotics, a few months ago I did a pollination to see what happened, here is the post with the plants used, from that pollination I got 19 seeds of which all were chlorotics except this one, all the chlorotics died due to my lack of experience and rootstock, so I grafted the survivor and I hope the color of the flower will be something interesting.

IMG_20221214_112018.jpg

But wait, there is already something interesting! I grafted the root and here we can see that it is starting to grow new pups, usually the result is that you get a plant full of heads all over the place, I will keep you posted with what happens on this plant.

IMG_20221214_112143.jpg

There was a moment when I was about to lose this sedum little gem, I have learned to take better care of it and right now I am stressing the plant to get those red colors on its leaves, as soon as it flowers again I will take pictures with the Canon M50 to share with you, those pictures will have a more professional style, you will see.

IMG_20221214_112343.jpg

Finally I leave you with some pictures of the seedlings that I transplanted, they are becoming adult plants and the truth is that I love to see them grow every day, I don't put everything because it would be too many pictures, remember that I have transplanted in 6 growing trays, in total there are more or less 700 transplanted seedlings and I still have to do some transplants, so I leave you, I must continue working in the garden, see you soon.

Looking good! I always tell myself: you win some, you lose some. I lost quite few recently in the weird weather we have, it's cool and rainy

Damn My worst nightmare! I haven't done the greenhouse yet and it almost always rains at the end of the year, I have to hurry.

And it's true we win and learn, we lose and learn too, it would be nice to see the plants you lost to learn.

I'll do a post soon. I also need to finish my greenhouse, that's part of my problem
