Rice Farms, Swamps and most challenging weeding process.
Hello Hive

Good morning fellow hivers and most especially my farmers onchain, how are your farms and crops fairing. I hope that we are having it good in the farms at this season.
Myself and daddy were at the farm yesterday as well and there are one or two work to be done for some of our crops before harvest.
Both weeding and fertilizer application is the stage that we are currently in. Weeding is very essential for every crop to do well and it is totally unavoidable.

Weeding of rice is one of the most challenging weeding process we often pass through especially for rice plants in the swamp. You have to fight through the swamp in-between these rice plants pulling up grasses. It's often risky/dangerous as there are harmful substances in the swamp Filaria worms and other other blood sucking insects. The only way to stay safe while working is to wear a boot like my daddy has one on his legs here.

It is safe to wear boots but I don't find it comfortable walking in these kind of boots, the boots are a bit heavy and I so wished that there are something smaller and comfortable for my small legs.

We barely arrived farm for the days work yesterday before I slipped and feel. I was pretty messed up and had to search for the nearest water source go clean up. It was a bit bad that I couldn't work for the rest of the day and rather than carry out the weeding ourselves we have decided to call some labourers to help us out. Initially we were working towards avoiding to spend more funds for this farm.

The financial implications of growing this rice has been much compared to our other crops. Soon I will make the breakdown of everything and make an estimation of the amount we have spent so far.
Rather than getting hurt in the swamp we decide to pass on this task to labourers. There are people who could wear boots and go round the farms weeding and clearing the rice plants in-between. We have been able to weed the other farms that are not covered by so much swamp water like this very one. Fertilizer application can only be done when this weeding is completed, you can't apply fertilizer to rice in between grasses. The added manure can also aid a faster growth for the grasses.

Farming work isn't the most pleasant work especially when you do not have the right resources and equipment. Although it is not too comfortable but this is one of the ways we get cheap foods. The huge amounts of money needed to consistently purchase food from the market cannot be compared with the sum spent to grow our foods especially in cases where we have abundant harvest. Right after the weeding we would be applying a little fertilizer to aid growth and proper seed production and then wait to see how these turns out.
Unnn, sorry, hope you didn't injure, well done ma,
Sending you an Ecency vote! 👍😊✨
I did not know rice needed weeding. Had thought water would prevent weeds from growing. Very interesting. Filaria worms? And here you are walking with no boots. Brave woman.
