Hello Hive

Happy new day to us all, I hope that our nights was peaceful and restful. Today we are already up early in order to start the business of the day.

Having prepared a portion of our land to begin the farming activities for this year
We are out on one of the greatest challenges of faming that we often face here.

Cultivating the land. Is the most difficult task that we haven't been able to find our way about it. For every farming season , the land has to be cleared first and then the tilling with hoes or tractor before seeds can be planted. The challenge here now is that we don't often find labourers to till the ground. It is quite a laborious work to use hoes to till the ground.
Most people shy away from the task of cultivating the land and by this I mean preparing of the ridges. They would rather prefer to do other farm jobs. Over the years I have had my father who is burdened with the task of cultivating the land but now daddy is ageing and it won't be right to have him do such work again.

Going through the whole of this state, I have noticed that there are but a few tractor that engaged in cultivation of the land. Tractors 🚜 🚜 are heavy duty machine that would have done this job easily but there are only a few commercial tractors available for hire across the state and. Throughout the farming season, it may be difficult to get one across to our farm to assist us with tilling the soil. The government hasn't done anything to boost agriculture in the state. If it were so they are meant to make available such machines for hire so that a lot of people can find it convenient to engage in farming . The hard labour around farming is what discourages people from engaging in agriculture as a career.

One good thing that happens here is that right before the farming we have as many animals who would have grazed on the land leaving their exudates which often helps to fertilize the soil .

We are not sure of how the modalities for tilling the ground this year will be like but we are on the lookout for labourers that may probably assist us with the job.

Great post. Land preparation is so important, but many farmers don’t realize that too much tilling can actually harm the soil over time. Finding the right balance and using practices like minimum tillage can really make a difference. Thanks for sharing this valuable insight🌱

That's a good suggestion if it is practiceable, thank you.
