Today I am all about growing date fruit. I visited a date farm yesterday and was surprised to see that date fruit can be grown in this part of the world. If there is anything else I love to eat that carries such a large amount of sweetness, it is certainly dates. It was really funny that on my way to the date farm I had already bought some dates from a seller hawking this fruit. I was eating them right about when I took these pictures on the farm.

Dates contain natural sugar that would keep proper check on one's sugar level. Natural sugars like honey and dates won't hurt our system so bad. And rather than taking artificial sweetener in your meals, this will be a healthy replacement.

When preparing some of our local drinks, we really prefer to use either honey or dates. Being a fruit that equally contains a good amount of fiber, you can be sure that this will aid in improving proper digestion. It equally improves the quality of our bone health as it contains a good amount of calcium. My educated farmer here knows so much about the health benefits of these fruits and didn't hesitate to plant a tree or two of them.

Date Certainly, the country has a location where it is grown in mass. Having noticed that a lot of the sellers here are the Hausa part of our country, I totally understood that the majority of the dates eaten here are grown in the northern parts of the country.

During the Ramadan fasting periods, a lot of our Muslim brethren are often advised to eat a good amount of dates. It will assist in keeping their bodies healthy, giving them a good amount of sugar since the fasting entails skipping some meals. When you eat dates during fasting, you give your body a good amount of natural sugar to absorb.

Being one spiky tree, you wouldn't have to bother about an animal attack on the plants; the spikes keep away potential predators from the dates.

Date fruits often start producing fruits after about 4 years of planting the fruit. This particular date fruit is about 5 years old now.

The genesis of germinating/growing date fruits from the seeds is a long process and can take up to 2 months before you have the seed sprouting from the thick shell. I am totally willing to try this, and because this tree often does not occupy so much space in one's compound, it is a tree that can be recommended for anyone to grow within their neighborhood.
