In response to the question posed by our friend @elizabethbit

Describe the perfect afternoon for you. Where would it be? What would you be doing? Tell us the details that would make it perfect!

It was a busy week, with walks to school and schoolwork to do. You know how it is! Just fulfilling my obligations.

Friday!!! Last day of classes this week. With a great attitude.

I received a call from my father; we hadn't had a pleasant conversation since December. His cancer has progressed, so he can barely speak. It was a short call; his voice is fading. He's been on a waiting list for almost two years for his first chemotherapy session, and nothing is working. I wanted to tell him how I'm doing and about the health scare I'm having, but then I thought, he already has enough to worry about, why add more? During the call, I asked about everyone, while reminiscing about what was once my home.

  • Delve into your memories.
    My grandmother and my father.

That photo was taken one Christmas; I remember I was about to turn 15 at the time.

In the middle of the call, I remembered more than one wonderful afternoon at home, one of those typical afternoons where I would see my father and grandmother chatting, sitting in the backyard, each smoking a cigarette and drinking a cup of coffee, surrounded by large fruit trees and listening to the rustling of the leaves in the strong breeze. Back then, my grandmother's backyard had a large avocado tree, and by February and March, it would be laden with avocados—avocados to enjoy and share with the neighbors. There were also orange trees, guava trees, lemon trees, and a plantation of bananas around the house. My grandmother used to say that Mother Earth provides us with everything we need for life, including food that we could grow ourselves. Those were wonderful afternoons sitting in the backyard, afternoons filled with tradition, afternoons I've been longing for for years and that will never return. That would be the perfect afternoon for me, to be in that little place where I grew up and spent so many happy times.

Happy weekend HIVE family❤️

It's so sad about your father. I hope everything goes well with his treatment. The afternoons you described with your father and grandmother are very touching memories. I wish you all the best with your health, and have a good night,
