DO WE HAVE TO JOIN ALL TRENDS?

We've witnessed very crazy trends in the Nigerian social media space in the just concluded month.

It seemed like a week barely passed without a disturbing trend.

Trust people to always jump on every available wagon. They help all the absurd news to trend, such that it becomes almost impossible for anyone who's an active user of the internet to pretend not to know what's going on.

That's the blessing and the curse caused by the internet.

The world no longer has a boundary. The internet has collapsed everyone and almost everything together.

While we can use this amazing innovation to our advantage, just as we have watched many do, it is becoming harder by the day, to guard one's heart against negative influence.

Fear, anger, promiscuity, and negativities of all kinds are being sold to us on a daily basis. It is quite sad that only few are endowed with the ability to guard their mind against what is being thrown at them.

Some people chew on everything they see on the internet. Every trend becomes an order in their lives. They are weightless, hence they get tossed by the wind.

People are bittered by what shouldn't concern them in the first instance. Some are fighting those who do not know that they exist.

I know of those who have dated, married and even given birth with those they have never met. Some are celebrating their ten years wedding anniversary as we speak. (That's on a lighter note.)

The most irrational one is the transfer of aggression. Imagine giving attitude to real life people who have been with you through thick and thin, because of a news you read on the internet. How does it work? Can someone help me to understand? This one is beyond my wildest imagination.

If you don't see the need to censor what your senses are exposed to, then I'm not talking to you.

My audience are those who care about their life and growth. I mean those who want to structure their life in a certain way. Not the ones whose mantra is "anything goes".

If you belong to my class, you must do all you can to ensure that everything does not get to you.

In pursuit of your dreams and aspirations, information plays a vital role.

This information is specific, it can't be anything and everything.

Choose what you give ears to.

You don't have to know everything.

In the world without boundaries, you are vested with the responsibility of building your own world with walls around it. Own your territory. Mount guards around it.

Not everything must get in there. If something undesirable slinked into your space, you must waste no time, kicking it off which must gusto.

Some of us want a healthy relationship, we want to stay productive, we want to build wealth and positive influence. We want to imbibe healthy habits. We want to stay sane.

We want to make the world better for those who'll look up to us.

For people with such desire, it's pertinent that we choose exactly what we'll hear, watch, and even give our contribution.

Don't dwell on it, if it doesn't add to you.

Well, I guess that's why we have those settings on our social media accounts that allows us filter what we want to see, and leave the ones we don't. Most people don't do this. They forget their mental health is more important than what the world exposed them to. And that they ought to filter most toxic things out. I guess these are the ones in the, "anything goes" mantra.
