Today’s Saturday. The sun is out but not harsh, and there’s this soft quietness in the air that makes you want to just sit still and breathe. I didn’t wake up too early, maybe around nine. My body felt a little sore, but in a good way. Probably from all the cleaning I did this morning.
So last night, I went over to my big bro’s place. It’s been a while since I saw him face to face. We talk often, yeah, but you know how it is chatting on the phone can’t really replace just being in the same space. I got there a bit late, around 8 or so. His area was quiet as usual, a few dogs barking in the distance, and that smell of late evening just hanging in the air.
He opened the door with that lazy grin he always wears when he’s not expecting anyone but is happy to see you. The house looked like it had been surviving rather than living. Not dirty, not messy-messy, just tired. Dishes in the sink, dust building up in corners, clothes slumped on chairs. You know the vibe.
We sat down, talked for a while. Laughed about old times, complained about football as usual, he's still stuck on his team that always lets him down, and I didn’t hesitate to rub it in. We had some crackers and drinks from his fridge. Not much, but it felt right.
I crashed on the couch that night. He offered his bed but I told him I was good. Slept like a log.
This morning, I got up before him. The place was quiet, sun just peeking in through the window. I looked around and just felt like doing something. Maybe it's how our mom raised us, you see something out of place, you fix it. No ceremony.
I started in the bedroom. Folded up his scattered shirts, lined up his shoes. Then moved to the living room. Picked up empty cans, wiped down the table, fixed the cushions. Even pulled out the rug and gave it a good shake outside. Then I hit the kitchen.
That kitchen though, it had seen better days. I rolled up my sleeves and went all in. Washed every single plate, cleaned the counters, scrubbed the stove like it owed me money. I even mopped the floor twice because once just didn’t feel enough.
I didn’t do all that to impress him or anything. I just felt like it. Sometimes, when you care about people, you don’t need a reason. You just do what needs to be done.
He eventually woke up and stood there for a bit, just blinking at the clean room like he was in the wrong house. He said, “Bro, what did you do?” I just shrugged. Told him, “Nothing serious, just tidied up a bit.”
He smiled and nodded. That meant a lot. We didn’t say much after that. Just sat down and drank tea. The kind of quiet that says more than words.
Now, I’m still here, just sitting on his couch, legs stretched out, tea getting cold beside me. It feels peaceful. And I feel useful. That’s something I don’t always feel, you know? But today, today was different. And I’m glad I came.

Miré alrededor y no sé, algo me dijo: limpia.
Esa necesitaba amor urgente. Me arremangué y me puse a fregar.
Solo me nació.
Me dijo “¿Qué hiciste, bro?”
It was a wonderful thing to do. Sometimes help is simply necessary!
