Unlimited Hotpot on a Rainy Afternoon at Shabu Shabu – Our Comfort Food at Its Best!
It was one of those slow, rainy Friday afternoon. You know the type—cloudy skies, steady raindrops, and that cozy, sleepy vibe in the air.
Honestly, it felt like the kind of day where the best thing you can do is wrap yourself in a blanket or... eat something warm and comforting. And guess what we chose? Hotpot.

The weather totally set the mood. So my friends and I decided to treat ourselves to a hotpot lunch just a few blocks away from where we live. One thing I love about our area is that we’re spoiled with food choices—different cuisines everywhere. So when cravings hit, it’s never a problem.

We found this unlimited hotpot place nearby—$11 per head, and you can eat as much as you want. Yup, unlimited. It was such a good deal, we didn’t even think twice. We walked in, and the warm air from inside hit us like a cozy hug. Perfect escape from the cold outside. It's like a Chinese cuisine in the movies. hehe

The staff were super nice, too. They helped us find a spot and started setting up the table. The hotpot was already warming up as we made our way to the ingredients section and wow, the spread was amazing.

They had tons of veggies like cabagges, pechay, Baguio beans, corn, and more. And for seafood lovers, they had shrimp, tahong, liver, eggs, tofu, and different kinds of meatballs and mushrooms. Everything looked fresh and inviting.

Then there was the meat section for beef, pork, chicken slices all ready to cook.

What made it even more fun was the DIY dipping sauce station. You could mix your own sauce based on your taste.

They had peanut sauce, ginger, spring onions, wansoy, soy sauce, garlic, chilies—the works. I went for a spicy garlic soy combo and it did not disappoint.

We started cooking right away. First in the pot: corn—takes the longest to cook. Then came the meats and seafood, and finally, the veggies. Watching the ingredients simmer in the broth, smelling that savory steam rise—it was so satisfying.

The soup just kept getting better as it soaked up all those flavors. Honestly, we were already halfway full just sipping on the broth.
We just sat there, talking, laughing, grabbing more food, and tossing it into the pot like it was some delicious science experiment. Everything tasted so good. Simple, yes, but comforting in the best way.

And of course, we had to end it with something sweet. On one side, they had fruit slices and coffee jelly. I went straight for the coffee jelly because, well, dessert is non-negotiable. It was light and creamy, just what we needed after a heavy lunch.
We stayed for a while even after we finished eating. The rain was still pouring outside, and none of us was in a hurry. It felt nice just chilling, full and content. That kind of quiet, shared moment you don’t really plan, but ends up being one of the highlights of your week.

I guess what made it special wasn’t just the food (though that was amazing), but the whole vibe. Good company, rainy weather, warm soup, and the feeling of just being present. Sometimes, that’s all we need.
