We are so sorry for what has happened in your country; at my house, we are devastated by the news we keep seeing.

Part of your story is what they are reporting: that there was no earthquake preparedness culture, nor were there any building inspection programs. In other words, because it's an earthquake-prone country, buildings aren't designed to withstand it.

I hope the owners of the property where you live make the necessary repairs to your home.
