Dependency

Dependency is scary, what if the person you are depending on gets unavailable all of a sudden? No matter what we do, we are somewhere depending on something in one way or the other. Now the question is how sustainable that is, even the job you are doing, is it good for the long run to serve? These are less risky, somewhat out of consideration. We may look at freelancing or remote jobs that are prone to get risky in terms of long-term sustainability.

I have a friend who is very skilled in the Digital Marketing sector, he is actively earning from this sector in one way or the other. The earning source is changing constantly and the earning curve has lots of ups and downs. He was doing freelance stuff, taught in an institute, did some remote jobs, and lastly, it's the freelance journey that is still sustainable that too with the blessing of two clients who are so satisfied with him that they don't go anywhere else except him. No, they aren’t in any contract or commitment, it's just his service that they are satisfied with and returns to him over and over again. Is this a sustainable strategy that he should be dependent on?

When I asked, he was laughing on and on. He says, “Bro trust me, I am giving my best to give them the best service they can get out there within their budget. Someone else would charge higher but I don't wanna lose them nor I wanna see their business going downwards as that would have a negative impact on me as well.” Basically, he is serving them not just as a mere client who came for a service, he sees them as the source of his current bread and butter and he does his best to see them growing as well. If they don't see positive results then they would surely look somewhere else for better results, right? Once they are lost, they are lost forever in his words. Also, if the growth of their business hampers, then he is going to suffer too, as his service is directly linked to the business growth.

So these are risky, getting dependable on this level is hell scary. The platform you and I are on right now has been the place to be dependent on for many. To be honest, I do depend on this a lot, and to reduce this dependency I am doing my best to create an alternative source of income. Honestly, I did try multiples already but the luck isn’t favoring me, I don't know why. Surely there are lackings in my trying, something that I am missing out on, something that I am doing wrong and that's why the results aren’t in my favor.

We all should have some alternative source of income, maybe some passive income sources are the best thing we can be dependent on. But the fact is, it's quite easy to say, hard to accomplish.

It’s always cool to depend on someone but at the same time, we should always be able to stand on our feet and gain our stance. That’s how it should work.
It would not make sense to depend fully on someone. The person may fall and may even need to depend on you later on

Having more than one source of income is such very good advice because the world is revolving and depending on just one job can lead to poverty with the constant hike in price.

Thanks for sharing.

I use to be a freelancer till COVID-19 happened. Made good money, started a restaurant but it didn't work. Then I decided to try 9-5, while still being a freelancer by the side. I am still sourcing for alternative income why? I dey find money, human wants are insatiable.
