Anyone can make a healing tea.

It can be done simply by combining dried herbs, it's that simple.

One can even pop open a capsule of already processed powdered herbs and use it to make tea too. But it is still very advisable to use fresh herbs, at least during the season of spring, summer and fall.

The main reason behind my advice is fresh herbs are more flavourful and fun to use.

The main difference between fresh herbs and dried ones is the water content. Off course herbs can always retain their supply of medicinal phytochemicals, even after drying them for some time.

But one disadvantage is that these phytochemicals are concentrated in dried herbs because of the lack of water.

Fresh herbs contain about 80% of water while dried ones contain just about 20%. So if we analyze it, ounce for ounce, the fried herb is more potent, and when it is added with a particular amount of water, more of these phytochemicals are infused in the tea.

Usually in herbal tea recipes, it is always assumed that one should always start with dried herb material. If you possess fresh herbs or plants, you will have to use about four times as much as the recipe suggests, if you want to get the same level of potency.

My main point is, always concentrate on herbs that are always safe even in amounts greater than those applied in the recipes.

In a situation where there is no specific herb, one can always try to make an infusion or decoction with one or more spoons of plant material.

Some people always complain about the bitterness of herbal teas, you can't always expect medicinal teas to have a nice taste, most of them are always quite bitter. But if you like the taste and you want a more concentrated tea, it is always ok and nice to use a larger quantity of herb.

Or you could just lace it up with some lemons, it has more acidity which helps to extract more of certain medicinal chemicals.
