What Three Months of Mediocre Training Does To Your Fitness


After three months of hardly doing any sports I decided to pick it up again. Yesterday I did my first indoor ride in a long time.

Today, I thought it would be nice to check out where my FTP is at now. Functional Threshold Power (FTP) is a well known metric in the cycling world. It is an indication of the power one can push for an hour. More info on FTP can be found here. It can be measured in a 20 minute “give-it-all” cycling session.

So what about my FTP? During the past summer, when I was actually putting in the effort regularly, I had an FTP of about 240. Well me feeling, quite untrained, was a good indicator of my current condition… I just got off the trainer after a standard FTP test. I pushed an FTP of just 176 Watts. Quite the drop!

Although it’s a drop, I see this as an awesome opportunity to get back on top of it! Time to bend the curve ;-)
