"Do not promise anything. A surprise is better than a promise fulfill by force."

Bro Eli Soriano

Making promises is easy but keeping to our promises becomes difficult. As humans, we tend to please people. This makes us try to make eye-pleasing commitments. Sometimes, we look at children as insignificant; that they will not know what we are doing to them. We try to get them in our tracts or to do our biddings by making empty promises to them.

Proverbs 13:12 (KJV) Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

Bro Eli Soriano explained to us through this video that making promises which we can't keep is wrong. Even though we could be thinking that we are doing that to the children, it is still wrong. According to the Bible, when we are unable to keep our promises to others, we cause them heart's pain. Their joy of expectation becomes darkened with sorrow. So, unfulfilled promises can cause sorrow.

Bro Eli advised us to rather prepare in bits till we are able to give our loved ones surprise gifts than make empty promises to them. One will be overwhelmed with joy to receive a gift he didn't expect than to expect one and then get disappointed.

Ecclesiastes 5:4-5 (KJV) When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.
Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.

God hates unfulfilled promises. He warns us not to make empty promises. When we make a vow before Him, we are bound to fulfill it. We should not make vows we are unable to fulfill.

I learnt from this video to avoid making empty promises. It's better to give a surprise gift than break someone's heart with unfulfilled promises.
