This week’s battle challenge focuses on the Fire & Regret Ruleset.

Ruleset Details

The Fire & Regret ruleset revolves around when an enemy unit attacks with a ranged attack, it receives damage in return. The amount of damage returned is equal to the damage inflicted by the attacker divided by 2, rounded up. However, ranged attack units with the Reflection Shield ability are not affected by reflected magic attacks. To capitalize on this ruleset, players tend to avoid using range monsters and instead opt for melee and magic monsters. This allows them to counter the potential range or magic attacks from the opponent effectively. Several abilities and strategies synergize well with the Fire & Regret ruleset. The Amplify ability, for instance, increases the damage caused by the Return Fire ability. The Reflection Shield ability is another valuable option as it absorbs the return fire damage, rendering the ranged monster immune to reflected magic attacks. The Shield ability reduces both melee and ranged attacks by 50%.

In a battle where conventional wisdom advised against using range monsters in the Fire & Regret ruleset, I decided to take a different approach. Despite limitations set on me due to the rulesets on melee monsters, I opted to play range monsters and strategically deployed passive tanks in the front positions. With the support of healing and armor repair abilities, my backline range monsters overwhelmed the opposition by hitting hard and fast. This unconventional strategy proved that sometimes defying the norm can lead to unexpected success.

Do you like the Fire & Regret ruleset? Why or why not?

The Fire & Regret ruleset offers damage reflection, and the ruleset discourages the use of ranged attackers and promotes the utilization of melee and magic monsters instead. Players must take into account abilities that synergize well with the Return Fire mechanic. The presence of abilities like Amplify and Reflection Shield can impact the outcome of battles. For players that don’t have large collections and especially players who have lots of range monsters, as they are generally cheaper, the reduced effectiveness of range attacks, discourages players from utilizing their favorite ranged monsters. However, I do like the Fire & Regret as it forces me to change up the monsters I pick for battles.
