Wicked: Más que una historia de villanos 🪄[Esp/Eng]

Espero estén pasando un buen fin de semana, por mi parte todo bien. En esta oportunidad quería aprovechar que pronto se estrenará Wicked 2 para reseñar la primera entrega de esta historia. La verdad soy super fan de los musicales y, desde que vi quiénes formaban parte del cast de la peli, no me lo podía perder, así que prácticamente la vi cuando se estrenó.

Esta adaptación de El mago de Oz nos muestra otro lado de lo que todos ya conocemos, presentándonos a una protagonista que fue vista como villana: Elphaba, o también conocida como la Bruja Mala del Oeste. Desde su nacimiento fue rechazada por su familia y por la sociedad por su color de piel. Crece siendo señalada y aislada, pero aun así nunca mostró resentimiento u odio hacia los demás; era sensible y poseía un increíble poder mágico que nadie parecía entender realmente. La actriz que interpreta a Elphaba fue la razón por la que estaba tan emocionada por la peli, y no me decepcionó. Su increíble voz era todo en las canciones y la actuación no se quedó atrás.

I hope you are having a good weekend, everything is fine on my end. On this occasion, I wanted to take advantage of the fact that Wicked 2 will be released soon to review the first installment of this story. The truth is that I am a huge fan of musicals, and since I saw who was in the cast of the movie, I couldn't miss it, so I practically saw it when it was released.

This adaptation of The Wizard of Oz shows us another side of what we all already know, introducing us to a protagonist who was seen as a villain: Elphaba, also known as the Wicked Witch of the West. From birth, she was rejected by her family and society because of her skin color. She grew up being singled out and isolated, but even so, she never showed resentment or hatred towards others; she was sensitive and possessed

Cuando Elphaba entra a la Universidad de Shiz, luego de un montón de conflictos, conoce a Glinda, la chica más popular, encantadora y aparentemente perfecta del campus. Todos la aman y piensan que es la mejor persona del mundo, pero ellas dos no se soportan al principio (se odian de verdad). Con el tiempo empiezan a conocerse y a descubrir que todo lo que proyectaban hacia los demás no era real, compartiendo inseguridades, frustraciones y sueños. Así forman una amistad que se convierte en el corazón de la historia.

Pero antes de llegar a ese punto, Glinda hizo muchas cosas muy cuestionables contra Elphaba. Glinda, interpretada por Ariana Grande, fue una buena elección; aunque muchos juzgaron su inclusión en el cast, su interpretación fue tan buena que aún me deja pensando si realmente espera lo mejor para Elphaba.

When Elphaba enters Shiz University, after a lot of conflicts, she meets Glinda, the most popular, charming, and seemingly perfect girl on campus. Everyone loves her and thinks she's the best person in the world, but the two girls can't stand each other at first (they really hate each other). Over time, they get to know each other and discover that everything they projected to others wasn't real, sharing insecurities, frustrations, and dreams. Thus, they form a friendship that becomes the heart of the story.

But before reaching that point, Glinda did many questionable things to Elphaba. Glinda, played by Ariana Grande, was a good choice; although many judged her inclusion in the cast, her performance was so good that it really makes me wonder if even she herself doubted what was best for Elphaba.

Continuando con la historia, Elphaba empieza a descubrir que el famoso Mago de Oz no es el héroe que todos creen. Detrás de su voz amable y su imagen pública perfecta hay manipulación, y cuando ella intenta hacer lo correcto, todo se vuelve en su contra y el mundo comienza a pintarla como la villana. Algo que me encanta es cómo Wicked te hace cuestionar eso de “quién es el malo” en las historias. Te muestran que a veces el supuesto villano es la persona que se negó a seguir el plan que todo el mundo aplaude, que la gente prefiere una mentira bonita antes que una verdad incómoda.

Y no puedo dejar de mencionar las canciones. Las voces de Cynthia (Elphaba) y Ariana (Glinda) forman parte del alma de esta historia: transmiten muy bien los sentimientos de cada escena y te transportan a la tensión y emoción del momento. Algo que sí no me gustó mucho es que realmente es una película muy larga, por lo que, si no estás acostumbrado a los musicales, posiblemente te aburras rápido.

Ya quiero ver la segunda parte para conocer el desenlace de esta historia. Espero les haya gustado mi post, gracias por leer.

Continuing with the story, Elphaba begins to discover that the famous Wizard of Oz is not the hero everyone believes him to be. Behind his kind voice and perfect public image lies manipulation, and when she tries to do the right thing, everything turns against her and the world begins to paint her as the villain. Something I love is how Wicked makes you question who the “bad guy” is in stories. They show you that sometimes the supposed villain is the person who refused to follow the plan that everyone applauds, that people prefer a pretty lie to an uncomfortable truth.

And I can't fail to mention the songs. Cynthia (Elphaba) and Ariana's (Glinda) voices are part of the soul of this story: they convey the feelings of each scene very well and transport you to the tension and excitement of the moment. One thing I didn't like very much is that it's a really long movie, so if you're not used to musicals, you might get bored quickly.
