It's time to start teaching little bloke the ropes

Hey homeedders I hope you have been safe and well! I have to admit after some time now I feel like our community documents much of my little ones growing. I was looking through some early posts trying to find some images and wow! there are a few.

It took me a bit to commence this post as there were so many posts about homeschooling little miss throughout her formative years, struggles with homeschooling and working from home due to COVID.

Cooking is something we really enjoy doing together and still to this day we do and now that little bloke is growing he also wants to get involved and although little miss was probably in the kitchen sooner than him as he is now 2. It's time to get him started!

I've learned a lot about teaching home economics since commencing with little miss and I know a good starting point is to commence the learning journey in a fun way and cooking something the kids like.

So we are off to our fam weekend favourite, Pancakes!

As there are two little humans now it has been harder to manage and cooking is actually delayed because both kids want a turn at doing things and little miss's skills have increased where she is starting to use knives (nothing too sharp) She can also read a bit more too and I am in the process of developing a recipe book for her with pictures!

For little bloke it is just simple tasks for now as I tried giving them an egg each to crack and add to the mix and where little miss was fine, little bloke ended up with his on the floor!

After a quick whisk which took a really really long time as both of them wanted to stir it little bloke didn't hesitate to lick the spoon which caused WW3 as little miss in her words Always licks the spoon not little bloke!

Without wanting to put it back into the mixture and spread germs I tried coming up with a solution but didn't and just put it back into the mix and gave it to little miss.... ewwww I know but shhhhhh they don't know lmao!.

And of course no pancakes are complete without ice cream of course! Little bloke was pretty pleased with himself by the end of it and tells everyone he cooked them although little miss isn't so much of a fan of his claim to fame as she did most the work.

I think this is a great learning experience that goes beyond the simplicity of making pancakes and goes more to the core of problem solving and team work. Something that little miss has not had to mitigate up until late.

For quite some time she was the centre of the universe and where she had to give up some space once little bloke arrived she handled it quite well and helped out and got involved.

But now as little bloke is growing up he is wanting to become more independent and get more involved with things and have is own place within our family. This is causing at time conflict between the two who both mean well.

Going forward it is going to be an interesting development how the both of them overcome this new challenge. Will one become more dominant or will they both rise to the challenge and compromise by working together for the common goal.

For the meantime, Dad is the default mediator.

I would be interested when it comes to other home edder parents out there with multiple kids how they overcame and taught their kids how to handle team work?

How cute! children love to get involved in the kitchen and be taken into account to participate in any recipe; Therefore, it is important to take advantage of those moments to share with them in the warmth of the home.

Greetings and blessings
