Do You Have What I Need?

How Would You Know?

Regardless of what the companies we represent try to convince us of, our product or service is not right for everyone right now. When I was first learning the reselling business, there were a bunch of new skills I needed to have already known. In the beginning business was very bumpy and filled with pain and panic because of my shoot from the hip trial and error style of doing things. Back then I was always in a frantic state, worried about time, money, order fullfilment, and customer service. Anyone trying to pitch me their opportunity, service, or product was met with an immediate "HELL NO!!"

The reason for my vicious rejection, and immediate FB blocking. It is not because I am a jerk, or am not open to new opportunites. It was because at that time I could not of possibly handled anything else. When I say anything I am not exagerating, no console gaming, no movie theaters, no going out with family or friends. I was absolutely consumed with transforming a hobby into a full blown business capable of supporting my household.

Facebook is a Social Community grouped into pockets of friends with similar interest. You might be talking to the right people, and still failing, badly. This is because social groups on facebook is where people go for a little escape. When I am in a Dr. Who group talking about the T.A.R.D.I.S. the last thing I want to be approached about is a weightloss solution that pays me to lose weight.

Timing Is Very Important

Ever wonder why Girls Scouts that sell outside of grocery stores, sell a lot more cookies, than girl scouts that go door to door? Timing, it is all about timing. When people are walking out of the grocery store their minds are still focused on getting food home. They may have even built up an appetite while shopping. So those Scouts are in the right place at the right time, and here in Orange County California, those little scouts are even equiped to accept credt card payments, some even take Venmo. You might be wondering how you can develop not only a sense of timing, but also be in the right place.

We Are Online!! Right Place?! What?!

Online let's talk about being in the right place. If you are hanging out in a Dr Who facebook group, then you are not in the right place to pitch anyone, anything, unless it is directly related the The Doctor like collectibles, fan fiction, games, etc...Like a said above these places are an escape. Do not ovelook a sales opportunity. For example if some one is looking for Dr. Who #14 by IDW, even if you do not have that issue but you sell other similiar comic books, you are in the right place, at the right time to ask that person for their want list.

The funny thing is no one will acuse you of spamming because you did not drop your store link you inspired another conversation. All serious comic book collectors have a want list. Asking someone for theirs opens up a whole series of future conversations. They will usually eagerly send that list to you, and if you have any of the issues on their list you can contact them and offer them a deal without offending anyone. This same scenario applies to most online business. We are all friends but when we get treated like a prospect, or potential customer our defenses go up and are no longer open to any opportunity.

You Need To Ask 3 Simple Questions

Remember all the way back to the beginning of the article where I was a frantic reseller rejecting everyone? Anyone of those spammers disguised as a potential friend could have avoided my harsh rejection if they had just taken the time and asked me three simple questions Asking questions is a way to get to know someone. Those that do not ask questions about us are sales people because they really do not care, just playing a numbers game for a paycheck.

If you are on facebook hoping to cash in on some sales, don't, because, you won't. What you need is an audience of friends that are your biggest fans. This sounds crazy hard but it is simple. Go out of your way and get to know everyone on your facebook friends list. If you do not want to know them then they should not be on your friends list. Ask questions about their lives. Most people post their highlights on facebook looka t their profile and learn what they are about craft your questions about their posts.

Enough of social media etiquette using facebook let's get to the questions.

  • Do they need what you are offering?

    • This is absolute like email marketers needing an autoresponder.

  • Do they desire what you are offering?

    • I need to drink water, but I always desire Mountain Dew.

  • Do they have the resources to buy what you are offering?

    • When I was going through Cancer treatment, my financial resources were so thin that I could not pay $20 a month for an autresponder.

This is a quick summation, but we can continue the conversation in comments. I know it is Saturday, and there is a lot to do so thank you very much for taking the time to read my article.
