Our Love Story: Lock and Key

This past few days, one friend of mine confessed that she has a crush on my brother. She adores him not based on his appearance but on his good qualities. That girl is just 15 years old, but how she thinks and feels is mature.

I'm not stopping her or pushing her on my brother. So that makes her comfortable. She's now saying to me everything that she feels about him. Until one day, she asks about my love story. I state it to her in detail, and she likes it. She found it romantic and beautiful.

Reminiscing everything that happens in the past, everything seems so clear. And so I think of writing it here.

And what a coincidence, @galenkp hosted a contest on WEEKEND EXPERIENCES Community. And reading the first question, I know now that this is the exact and perfect timing of stating our love story.

So without further ado, let's ride the time machine back in time.

My first love is a family friend. He's been known by my clan.

He's so close to them starting from my grandfather, aunt, and parents. He's 20 y/o and I'm 12. It means I'm still a child, but he's already an adult. That's why I used to call him "Kuya".

He is not that talkative, just a silent one. He's tall, white complexion, and looks clean. 😅 I have had a crush on him since I was in elementary. Just noticing him.

I don't know if you got attracted to a mature one when you were still a child, but I did. HAHA.

He always finds ways to talk to me whenever he's around. That's how we got close back then.

Time flies and I'm already a teenager. I'm 17 and he's 25.

We used to text each other, just a random one. Until one day, he asks me if he can court (through text).

And just like I stated earlier, I have had a crush on him even before. But thinking of having him as a boyfriend, or husband in the future... I don't consider it. I'm not into a mature one. Almost 8 years ahead of my age? That made me immediately reject him.

But he's so eager. He told me not to instantly reject him coz he's not yet making any effort. I need to try him first, he stated. Then reject him if it doesn't work.

Considering what he said, I allowed him to court me. But still, I gave him a condition.

I want him to ask my parents first regarding it, just to show respect to them. When they agree... Then all is well.

The day has come, and he went to our house. He's in uniform as he was still in college. I can see in his eyes that he's not comfortable that day, he's nervous and not confident. Well, I know the reason behind it. That's the time he'll inform my parents regarding the courtship.

But you know what happened? He just asked my Mom if he can use our computer and do some research. Then leave after that.

My Mom sensed something. It's not usual that this man came to our house alone. He's always with a group. And using our computer just to research? Why not go somewhere near? Mom used to ask me those intriguing questions after he leave.

In the end, I am the one confessing to Mom about it. Boys, are you that scared of our parents?

Anyways, my parents didn't get shocked about it as they already have an idea that it will happen. They said that they noticed him even before. He always searches for me in a group, teases me, or annoys me just to have time to talk to him. Lol.

Now, maybe you're intrigued about the lock and key on the title. I will now reveal how that got connected to our love story.

One afternoon, when he visits me at home, he gave me a lock.

Plus 2 keys. One is for him and the other is mine.

hen I asked, "What is this for?" He said, "the lock symbolizes our hearts."

"This lock remains closed at the moment. Each of us has a key to open it."

"As for myself, I don't need this key." Then he throws it away. "That means my heart remains closed for you. I will not open it to anyone. While you? You still have access to it, your heart can be open anytime. It's up to you what you will do with that key."

And that key remains on me.

Until the day has come when I plan to throw that key. I asked him if we can talk. But I did not say anything. I just throw the key.

It ended up that I throw it near that it was so easy to search and find again. That's so epic. He didn't like it. He searches for it, picks it up, and returns it to me. He said, "throw it somewhere far that you can't get it that easy." He wants to make sure not to open my heart again to anyone. So, we went to a bridge, and throw that key into the river. That makes me laugh harder, thinking that moment should be romantic, but it ends up funny. 🙈

So, that's the happy ending of my first love. We've been a couple for almost 8 years. Then make a vow through a wedding that we will love each other eternally.
