Dear Reputation 52 Friend - LOH #117

Dear Reputation 52 friend,

How are you? I heard you're thinking of quitting Hive. Is it true?

Well for some reason, quitting is the easiest way nowadays to remove some unnecessary things you didn't like or can't manage. But thinking of Hive, I'm telling you it's a big regret if you quit now.

Why not think of taking a break instead of quitting? Let's call it a "Hive break". Having a Hive break means don't pressure yourself to think of writing a new article, commenting on others' essays, upvoting or reblogging. Don't open Hive if you don't feel like doing it. Take your time to do the things you love, enjoy, and you got an interest in. Like taking a vacation or a leisure day.

Then use that time also to analyze the problem. Think what's the real situation you're facing in Hive. Why do only a few people read your posts? Can't you truly make time on Hive? Or does the low value of Hive the only reason to quit?

Evaluate everything of your reasons and think if there's any "solution" you can give. Having a break is the best time to take a deep breath and make your brain function.

Now, let's say you're certainly busy in your everyday life. And Hive can't be your priority now. So is quitting exactly the best solution? Hive is not requiring us to create an article every day. It's not strictly PUTTING obligations on our shoulders about the things we can't make. So instead of thinking of writing an article once a day, why not make it once a week? If that's the only time you can give in Hive. Just be realistic about your time and don't make things complicated.

And... I'm telling you writing one, two, or three articles can't make your journey here succeed immediately. Or make people obliged and visit your article every time you post.

It's okay if they don't upvote.

Remember Hive is a long time journey. There is no shortcut to success. To gain followers, upvoters/curators, and friends here, you need to make an effort, consistency, and action. You can't have it all in a day. It's like a marathon... you need to run a few kilometers before winning the prize. Of course, it's not easy. But in the end, it's all worth it.

If you can see the successful Hivians here, they all face that problem of yours. They start from being redfish. But look at them now, they are gaining a lot of followers and upvotes. That's because they DID NOT QUIT. They tried so hard to be consistent, and that now paid off.

But stop comparing yourself to the big ones. They also start being you. They're not your competitors here. View them as your colleagues who can help you succeed. If they don't upvote you, then try upvoting them. Leave a comment on their articles. Reblog their posts. Maybe one day, they can notice you. And do the things you're doing to them. See? It's a win-win situation now.

And hey, here in Hive... Earning upvotes in an article is not the only way we can gain. There are different ways we can earn. If you can't receive many upvotes, why not try to join contests? There are a lot of interesting contests here that give generous prizes. Remember, "hitting two birds with one stone"?

Also, try to leave engaging comments on different articles as well. Some of them upvote a big amount, and that's an earning as well.

Or... why not join the @dreemport? It's a community where you can curate and submit your article. There you can instantly have readers, upvoters (if they like what you make), and commenters (if they can relate). It's a beautiful community plus the fact that all of the members are good at their tasks.

There's a lot more community we can follow here, and I'm telling you, every one of them helps us to be better and to gain more. I also tried to discover each one of them, and in my 2 months' existence here I can say, I need to have a tour again in Hive. HAHA.

So yeah, don't quit. Just take a break, a big breath, and a new positive spirit after you return.

Love,
Mayt

This is my entry to the LOH community contest #117. Answer to the question of @kerrislravenhill:

"Scenario 1: A reputation 52 friend says that she no longer wants to be active in Hive, claiming that she can't make the time, the coin is so low valued, and only a few people ever read her posts. What could you do to encourage and help her to keep trying? Writing tips? Time management? Other?"

But stop comparing yourself to the big ones. They also start being you.

I agree with this. Nobody starts having the highest reputation. They work so hard that is why they deserve what they have now.

Yes. Everyone starts being small, but consistency and not quitting are the secrets to why they achieve where they are right now.

It's okay if they don't vote for us. Enjoy the creative process. Accept that every start is slow and has its bumps. We all had a start and we all at some point thought about giving up.

It's true. But being slow doesn't mean we're not progressing, right? 😉

I was here since 2017 posting on a part-time basis, slightly more than one post a week since I have writing challenges. In that time Hive went from almost $3 to where it is today. My upvote rarely exceeded $0.03 and it Took me more than three years to finally become a Dolphin. Three times I've almost quit but I had some luck and a great community that supported me at the right times.

Thanks for letter of encouragement @mayt 🌷

Wow. Thanks for the comment. I now know where your questions came from. All of us have been struggling here at the beginning. And we'll not know what happened if we already quit.

Good thing you did not quit despite that 3 times moments. By the way, nice to meet you, one of the seniors here in Hive. 🤗

If only I got a Hive token for every hour of sleep I lost in writing I would be an Orca by now, Lol! I can begin to be astonished how far I have come in my Hive journey.

This is inspiring and motivating to read @mayt ❤️. I can relate to the struggles of reputation 52 friend. I also get demotivated when I don't receive upvotes from my articles and I feel pressured and stressed knowing that I am being inactive again. But I agree with you that everyone has their own pace. We should not rush the progress; just put in some effort and be consistent. Slow progress is still progress :))

Aww. ❤ I'm happy you've got inspired and motivated by this. I always find this kind of comment encouraging as well.

Anyways, who would not get demotivated receiving small upvotes? 😅 All of us did. But why are we still here? Well, some just love writing, and upvotes are not their focus.. but, the happiness of expressing themselves through articles.

We start from number one before getting to number two there's no how we can just jump to number seven without getting to number six! Why rush??....why feel bad ??...I believe if he or she is consistent on hive and also engaging genuinely the algorithm of hive database would pick her vibes up. So the best advice is be consistent and engaging!

This is an amazing post, it almost made be emotional because from reading those words I could remember my hive struggles, there was a te I took a break for almost 6 month to figure things out and most especially not getting upvote could demotivate a person and sometimes serve as a mental constraint for wanting to engage on hive and in most cases when you don't have a mentor who put you through things on hive, things can get a little messy. Well as member on hive I could remember my first few months on hive when I could barely get a vote on a post. Well at some point everyone had the same experience, instead of quitting input more effort, though I have not figured it out totally because I'm still not getting the votes and attention on my blog I desire bit I know I will get there some day.

I just hope this post is enough to discourage reputation 52 from quitting because that will be a mistake.

Thanks for sharing.

That's almost half of the year. Well, if your post is not upvoted, that really can make one quit hive. Good thing you managed to get back. If you love to write, then view this platform as a diary or a journal that gives tips if you share some of your secrets. Haha

You make a lot of sense in your post but all the time I was reading,I thought you were quoting someone's post. Your work was written as if in a quote, how come?
But I must admit that this is very true and encouraging for many who have left hive or thinking of quitting. This is inspiring.
Dreemport mentioned is really a way to get going and be encouraged to hive. You get a lot of eyes in your post and loving support from other dreemers.

Ohh, sorry for that. I think I didn't use properly how that "quote tab" should be. 😅 That's just my way of making the letter different from what is the original text here.

Anyways, thanks for opening my eyes to how to use such things. I'm still discovering how to make an article on those tabs. Haha.
