Ya en varias ocasiones lo había visitado, pero este viaje se me hizo muy emocionante porque no solo fui de visita, sino que también estuve trabajando en compañía de muy buenos amigos a quienes hoy día recuerdo con mucho sentimiento.
Por eso hoy quiero contarles de este pequeño viaje que hice hace pocos años.
pueblito del estado Monagas, Venezuela, llamado Caripe, mejor conocido como Caripe El Guácharo “El Jardín del Oriente”.
Aquí estoy en el monumento representativo al ave de la región conocido como Guácharo.
Aquí uno de mis primeros recuerdos de ese viaje.
Siempre me han impresionado los paisajes y el clima tan fresco, cosa que parecería rara cuando se habla del oriente venezolano, conocido por su clima cálido.
Este pequeño pueblo, lleno de muchas particularidades, además de su clima frío, su vegetación y la muy conocida Cueva del Guácharo, llamada así por las particulares aves que habitan en ella.
Este es un pueblo lleno de historia. El sabio alemán Alejandro de Humboldt y el francés Aimeé Bonpland visitaron Caripe como parte de su viaje por Venezuela.
Uno de los datos más interesantes de los que se hablan cuando se va a Caripe tiene que ver con la Cueva. La Cueva del Guácharo es el principal atractivo turístico del pueblo, y a pesar de que su exploración ha mostrado lo grande que es, se piensa que aún no llegan a encontrar su final.
Ir a Caripe y no tomarse una foto frente a la cueva es como nunca haber ido. Esta es la foto obligada.
Ver esta especie de pozo me hizo como viajar al pasado e igual fue casi obligatorio tomarme una fotografía con ella. Este está ubicado en el Hotel Pueblo Pequeño donde me hospedé y trabajé ese día.
Humboldt registró y categorizó esta especie cuando vino; por haberla encontrado en Caripe su nombre científico es Steatornis caripensis.
Aquí expongo una bebida preparada con ron y algunas hierbas típicas de la región. En Venezuela se le conoce a este tipo de bebida como Brujitas, o Ron Compuesto. Algunos alegan que tiene propiedades medicinales.
Ya de regreso quise llevarme de souvenir dicha botella, y el señor de la tienda, muy amablemente, nos regaló unos tragos servidos en esta particular copita hecha con una especie de totuma la cual imagino también usaban los nativos de la región muchos años atrás. Este gesto de parte del señor se nos hizo muy agradable y nos hizo ver que turísticamente es importante la atención que le dan los locales a los visitantes, bien sean venezolanos o extranjeros.
Al final de la tarde ya se nota caer la neblina.
De regreso a nuestra ciudad, llevando en mi la sensación de ese orgullo venezolano que nos caracteriza. En lo personal, aparte de ser un poco regionalista y amar mi estado, no podría dejar de invitarlos a que también se aventuren a conocer este pequeño pueblo el cual estoy seguro que les dejará un buen recuerdo, igual que a mí me pasa cada vez que lo visito.

Here is one of my first memories of that trip.
I have always been impressed by the landscapes and the very cool climate, something that would seem rare when talking about eastern Venezuela, known for its warm weather.
This small town, full of many peculiarities, in addition to its cool climate, its vegetation and the well-known Cueva del Guácharo, named for the particular birds that inhabit it.
This is a town full of history. The German scholar Alexander von Humboldt and the Frenchman Aimeé Bonpland visited Caripe as part of their journey through Venezuela.
One of the most interesting facts talked about when going to Caripe has to do with the Cave. The Cueva del Guácharo is the town's main tourist attraction, and although its exploration has shown how big it is, it is thought that they have yet to find the end of it.
To go to Caripe and not take a picture in front of the cave is like never having gone. This is the must-take photo.
Seeing this kind of well made me like traveling back in time and it was almost mandatory to take a picture with it. This one is located at the Pueblo Pequeño Hotel where I stayed and worked that day.
Humboldt recorded and categorized this species when he came; for having found it in Caripe its scientific name is Steatornis caripensis.
Here I expose a drink prepared with rum and some typical herbs of the region. In Venezuela this type of drink is known as Brujitas, or Ron Compuesto. Some claim that it has medicinal properties.
On my way back I wanted to take the bottle as a souvenir, and the man at the store, very kindly, gave us a few drinks served in this particular glass made with a kind of totuma which I imagine the natives of the region also used many years ago. This gesture on the part of the gentleman was very nice and made us realize that the attention given by the locals to visitors, whether Venezuelan or foreigners, is very important for tourism.
