Breakdown and no brakes on my Hyundai Getz [Eng - Esp]

Owning a car is a blessing, until the breakdowns and mechanical problems start. While it is true that having a car at your disposal solves your life in many aspects, it is no less true that when they fail for some reason, they mess up your life and a little more.
In my particular case, I am terrified of being stranded due to car failure. And I have a long history of being stranded by this kind of cause. Overheating of all kinds (radiator, electric fan), spark plugs fouling, coil failures, battery failures, oil leaks and you can stop counting.
My car, a 2008 Hyundai Getz, is an excellent vehicle. Small but powerful, with a lot of power in its engine despite its size. Comfortable, comfortable. When you drive it through places with a lot of water, it always comes out victorious, keeping, of course, the due so that it does not turn off.
The engine was rebuilt a year ago, after almost three years of being stopped, waiting for the resources to be able to fix it and get back on the road with it. Since then and until now, the car has behaved very well (and may it continue to do so, please).
When the engine was rebuilt, some parts that the car required to be operational were replaced. However, the brake system at that time, seemed to be fine and maybe it was, but of course, as the days went by due to the use, it wore out and presented the failure. The brake system was left as it was when the engine was rebuilt.
Ser dueño de un carro es una bendición, hasta que comienzan las fallas y los problemas mecánicos. Si bien es cierto que tener un carro a tu disposición, te resuelve la vida en muchos aspectos, no es menos cierto que cuando fallan por alguna causa, te la descuadran y un poco más.
En mi caso muy particular, me aterra quedarme varada por fallas en mi automóvil. Y vaya que tengo una historia de vida larga en cuanto a quedarme de esa manera por este tipo de causas. Recalentamientos de todo tipo (radiador, electroventilador), enchumbamiento de bujías, fallas de bobina, batería, botes de aceite y pare usted de contar.
Mi carro, un Hyundai Getz del año 2008, es un vehículo excelente. Pequeño pero rendidor, con mucha potencia en su motor a pesar de su tamaño. Cómodo, confortable. Cuando lo pasas por sitios con mucha agua, siempre sale victorioso, guardando claro está, lo debido para que no se apague.
Tiene un año que se le reconstruyó el motor luego de casi tres años parado, esperando los recursos para poder arreglar y volver al ruedo con él. Desde entonces y hasta ahora, el carro se ha portado muy bien (y que lo siga haciendo, por favor).
Cuando se le reconstruyó el motor, se le cambiaron algunas piezas que el carro requirió para poder estar operativo. Sin embargo, el sistema de frenos en aquel momento, parecía estar bien y quizás lo estaba, pero claro que al paso de los días por el uso, se desgastó y presentó la falla. El sistema de frenos se dejó tal cual cuando se reconstruyó el motor.
No replacement was made as the diagnosis was that despite the time the car was out of service due to the engine failure, the brakes were operational. Now, obviously, at some point, they were going to collapse as they had been in use for some time.
There is nothing that scares me more than a failure in full circulation and if it is related to such a delicate part of the car as the brakes, much more. A brake failure can lead to major accidents, especially if you come at a high speed. In these cases, it is difficult to solve the moment well.
I had noticed a few days before the failure that the brakes were working at a lower capacity than normal. The brake pedal had to be depressed further to achieve effective action. However, I didn't think it would result in a scare like the one I got that day when I went to pick up my son at a friend's house in another part of the city where we live.
We were chatting without any problem (yet), when suddenly I had to stop at a traffic light and Oh, God, surprise! The car made a very ugly noise when I put my foot on the brake pedal. It sounded as if something had come loose and in fact, the car would not brake.
I was terrified at the time, but the cold part of my mind told me in that instant of fright: "Maribel, use the hand brake! And so I did. I managed to brake just before brushing the car in front of me because the red light at the traffic light was in force at that moment.
No sé hizo ningún reemplazo pues el diagnóstico fue que a pesar del tiempo que el carro estuvo sin funcionar por la falla del motor, los frenos estaban operativos. Ahora bien, obviamente en algún momento iban a colapsar pues tenían ya tiempo de uso.
No hay nada que me aterre más que una falla en plena circulación y si es referente a una parte tan delicada en el carro como son los frenos, muchísimo más. Una falla de frenos puede acarrear accidentes importantes, sobre todo si se viene a una velocidad alta. En estos casos difícilmente podremos resolver con bien el momento.
Si había notado días atrás del momento de la falla, que los frenos estaban funcionando a una capacidad más baja de lo normal. Había que hundir más el pedal de freno para poder lograr una acción efectiva. Sin embargo, no pensé que eso resultaría en un susto como el que me lleve ese día en que fui a buscar a mi hijo donde un amigo en otra localidad de la ciudad donde vivimos.
Veníamos conversando sin problema alguno (aún), cuando de repente me tocó frenar en un semáforo y ¡Oh, Dios, sorpresa! El carro hizo un ruido muy feo cuando puse el pie en el pedal de freno. Parecía como si se hubiera desprendido algo y de hecho, el carro no frenaba.
Me aterroricé en el momento, pero la parte fría de mi mente me dijo en ese instante de susto: ¡Maribel, usa el freno de mano!. Y así lo hice. Logré frenar justo antes de rozar el carro de adelante, pues la luz roja en el semáforo estaba vigente en ese momento.
From then on we drove very slowly on the remaining road to get home. It would be the next day that the repair would be done. During that trip, when I wanted to brake, I did it very slowly and, Terror again! An even more horrible sound, it was nothing more and nothing less than the iron without brake pad, rubbing directly on the disc.
Oh what a pain I felt every time I heard it because I knew that I ran the risk of scratching it and in that case, it would have to be rectified, that is, an additional cost. As I could, I went very, very slowly, so that when I had to brake, I would do it subtly and thus I would not scratch the disc.
The ride was not really very long (thank God), but it took forever because of the speed at which we had to go. We arrived home safe and sound, and we immediately contacted my mother's husband, who is a mechanic.
He told us that by chance he was coming to the city the next day because they live in the countryside. This news was perfect for us because he could do the job of changing the brake pads and fixing the problem at no cost, only the purchase of the spare part. We got someone to take us to buy the spare part in question, it was the set of brake pads, which cost me 15 $.
That day, my mother's husband arrived and made the change. I could see, in my little mechanical knowledge, how he disassembled the rubber and the part where the pads are mounted. A seemingly simple job, but one that requires precision, knowing how to disassemble and then precisely adjust so that the brakes would be operational again.
A partir de allí fuimos rodando muy despacio en el camino que faltaba para llegar a casa. Ya sería al día siguiente que se haría la reparación. Durante ese trayecto, al momento de querer frenar, lo hacía muy despacio y, ¡Terror otra vez! Un sonido más horrible aún, era nada más y nada menos que el hierro sin pastilla de freno, rozando directamente el disco.
Ay que dolor sentía cada vez que lo escuchaba pues sabía que corría el riesgo de rayarlo y en ese caso, habría que rectificarlo, o sea, un costo adicional. Como pude iba muy, pero muy despacio, de forma que cuando me tocara frenar, lo hiciera de forma sutil y así no rayara el disco.
El trayecto en realidad no era muy largo (gracias a Dios), pero se me hizo eterno por la velocidad en que debíamos andar. Llegamos a casa sanos y salvos, y enseguida nos comunicamos con el esposo de mi madre, que es mecánico.
Él nos avisó que por casualidad venía al día siguiente a la ciudad pues ellos viven en el campo. Esta noticia nos cayó como anillo al dedo pues, podría hacer el trabajo de cambiar las pastillas de freno y arreglar el problema sin costo alguno, sino únicamente la compra del repuesto. Conseguimos quien nos llevara a comprar el repuesto en cuestión, era el juego de pastillas de freno, las cuales me costaron 15$.
Ese día, llegó el esposo de mi madre y realizó el cambio. Pude ver, en mi escaso conocimiento mecánico, como desmontó el caucho, y la pieza donde van montadas las pastillas. Un trabajo en apariencia sencillo, pero que es de precisión, el saber cómo desmontar y luego de forma precisa ajustar para que los frenos quedarán operativos nuevamente.
One of the wheels took a little longer to open and mount the new pads, but in the end, the job was completed on time and in an excellent manner. The pads on both tires were changed to ensure optimal braking and that I would not have another accident because of this cause.
However, the scare I had is still not erased and of course, I learned to be attentive to every detail that sometimes gives you the car in terms of possible failures (noises, slow braking, etc.).
A good checkup from time to time avoids this kind of scare. And of course, never trust and drive carefully and consciously.
Una de las ruedas costó un poco más para abrirla y montar las nuevas pastillas, pero al fin, se logró con éxito terminar el trabajo a tiempo y de una manera excelente. Se cambiaron las pastillas de ambos cauchos para garantizar un óptimo frenado y que no volviera a accidentarme por esta causa.
Sin embargo, el susto que pasé aún no se borra y por supuesto, me deja como aprendizaje el estar atenta a cada detalle que a veces te brinda el automóvil en cuanto a posibles fallas (ruidos, frenado lento, etc.).
Una buena revisión cada cierto tiempo evita este tipo de sustos. Y por supuesto, jamás confiarte y conducir de forma atenta y consciente.

Un auto es muy importante en trabajos como el mío , debo desplazarme casi a diario , los imprevistos suceden ,y muchas veces uno como el que le sucedió , algunas personas dicen que un auto es más lo que demanda que lo que ofrece , estoy de acuerdo , hay que trabajar para mantenerlo , si una persona tiene la necesidad pienso que debe tenerlo , es más un instrumento de trabajo como en mi caso.

El que no ha probado la comodidad y el ahorro de tiempo que te da un vehículo, casi siempre habla de esa manera. Sin embargo, los que ya conocemos sus bondades, pensamos que cualquier sacrificio para mantenerlos operativos, bien vale la pena. Este fue un gran imprevisto, pero soy de las que cree firmemente que, con sus mantenimientos y revisiones preventivas, se evitan muchos gastos imprevistos.

Ciertamente quedarse sin frenos es una falla que puede terminar en catastrofe y las consecuencias pueden ser hasta letales. Requiere una atencion especial y cuidadosa. Lo bueno fue que pudiste manejar la situacion, hacerlo de la mejor manera para evitar mas daños y gastos y llegar a casa sin problemas. Excelente. Saludos.

It's, indeed, true. As people like to joke, there's 2 great days about owning a car: when you buy it, and when you sell it!
Hahahaha well, I particularly love my car. So much that the time it was stopped due to engine failure, I missed it too much and I did my best to repair it. Today, I'm glad I did.

The periodic revisions are one of those things that no one actually remembers to do, and we just rememeber about it when something goes wrong! Just like bringing an umbrella!
Hola, nada peor que estar accidentado y sin frenos, es la experiencia mas llena de adrenalina que tendrá un ser humano a mi parecer, estas a un mal giro de la muerte todo el camino. Ahora que la viviste estoy segurisimo que no la querrás vivir mas nunca, especialmente con tu hijo en el auto. Pues esa es la vida diaria con el automovil que uso, el auto de mi papa es un autoviejo, de esos que no se consiguen todas las cosas, entre esas, sus frenos.
Tiene los frenos adaptados de otro vehiculo, pero como no son sus propios, el disco es mas pequeño del o que requiere el peso y patina un poco, resultando en frenados largos y tendidos, que son propensos a accidentes.
No participe en el concurso por que realmente es una falla que vivo a diario, al punto que ya no lo uso desde que Abi salio embarazada, ni loco meto a mi bebe en un auto que en cualquier momento puede fallar :S
Gracias a Dios el freno de mano aun funcionaba, aveces esos también se averían temo decirte, un abrazo y espero que mas nunca vivas algo similar.
La verdad fuè una experiencia de terror, querido amigo. Sin embargo, como bien dices, el freno de mano funcionando y la serenidad que tuve que llamar para llevar poco a poco el auto a mi casa, me hizo salir con bien de esta mala experiencia.
De ahora en adelante, revisiòn cada cierto tiempo, algo que siempre dejamos en el olvido por el dìa a dìa y es vital para el funcionamiento. Gracias por pasar y dejar tu comentario. Lo aprecio mucho! Un abrazo de vuelta y besos a la pequeña Sofìa. @jesustiano
