So, I was on my sewing machine late in the night when I received a call from my mum's colleague. I was blushing, my heart was beating fast with both excitement, nervousness and suspense after the call. She called for me to check my NYSC portal to see where I was posted, I was unable to check because there was traffic on the site but she was able to check, so she checked for me and I received another call, this time, I had both headache, cold and heat at the same time after the call. I felt dizzy from inside, I held my head down as I could not believe my ears 🥺🥺🥺.
When she sent me the proof... It felt like my eyes were betraying me, I zoomed and zoomed, blinked my eyes hoping what I was seeing would change.... It didn't, it just stared back at me waiting for me to accept my fate 🥺😭.

Hi guys, it's been a very long time here, I apologize with no excuse, but I'll love to share what I've been up to when I was away from hive.

NYSC is an acronym for NATIONAL YOUTH SERVICE CORP. In Nigeria, whenever any student under the age 30 is done with his/her degree, he/she is expected to serve the country for a year.

This service includes being posted to a state where he or she hasn't been before. During the service year, the person will be regarded as a corper or a corp member (which Nigerians call otondo, corper wee and other funny names

In that state of deployment, there's
a three weeks orientation in a camp (which is a synonym for the word stress 🥺😭), afterwards the person will be posted to his/her place of primary assignment where he/she will begin to work and receive stipends from the government.

Here's the story of where I was posted to and how my three weeks orientation went.

She told me "You were posted to Nasarawa", I swallowed my saliva and wanted to say "Ahhh... Ma is this playing 😂", but I could not say that to an elderly one. I didn't believe, so she sent me the screenshot and I saw where it was written:
Place of Deployment: Nasarawa State I just heard a deep sound in my ears gbauuuuun 😂. I checked again and saw
Camp: Magaji Dan Yanusa Permanent Orientation Camp, Keffi, Nasarawa State
My eyes were just turning on e own (if you know you know) 😂

It felt like it was more than that, my knees felt weak, my throat felt dry, so many emotions all at once. All I was expecting was I to be posted in Lagos (🤫 naso my plug no plug o... E catch fire burn seff 😂)

My mum was equally scared, I didn't even know what to do, I went outside the house and started pacing with a blank mind. I know you can say I could still redeploy, buy I didn't want to even spend the three weeks there.

Then I remembered a friend who served for the whole year in Nasarawa State, I called her around 11pm and explained to her, she laughed and told me Nasarawa is a good state and I would enjoy the place, she said she has a family member staying there permanently and even wanted to stay there herself, but her parents refused.

My mum on the other hand was also making phone calls, making inquiries about the place and all responses were positive.

Gradually, my mind was getting settled, the next thing I did was went to YouTube and Instagram to search for those who served in Nasarwa State 😂, after sometime, probably because of what I saw online and the response I got, the adventurous part of me said "but Marvie, what's the big deal with going to serve in the north for a year, you've been in Lagos all your life, would be nice to know more places you know?" I don't know why, but I decided to listen to that "part of me" and I just decided to go. I told my mum nothing will happen and I'll be fine.

She agreed initially, then disagreed, them agreed, then disagreed 😂😂😂... after a while she finally agreed, well let me just tell you, I was only forming hard girl, in one corner of my mind, I was still scared 😂, I couldn't sleep, I remember crying when I went to the bathroom 🤣🤣. I still summoned up courage and started preparing for my journey to the north 🤩.

In my next post, I'll tell you how my journey went, how the three weeks went, my experience with soldiers, friends and all I can remember.
