Waking Up to the Shadow of Fear: Why I Refuse to Accept Nigeria’s Insecurity as Our New Normal.
I woke up today and was just lost in thought. Like, I don't even know if today I'm pissed off. But I very well know that I'm tired. The thoughts of the kidnapped school children and hundreds of Nigerians who have been k!dnapped flooded my thoughts. Like, I woke up, said my prayers and felt bad.. so bad. I stood up from my bed and stretched, and I can't stop thinking how innocent children are out there in the bushes sleeping on the are floor, or on grasses, being bitten by various insects and all, eating and drinking only God knows what.... Like
And I feel a lot of us are getting used to this issue of insecurity, we are beginning to see it as a normal thing. I personally have refused to see it as normal and I've also promised myself to keep talking about it at every little chance I get. We can't be traveling in fear, send out children to school in fear, eat in fear, walk in fear and even be in our own house in fear... Like, is this how life should be. Is this how a nation should be?

It's hurting to see that most of the victims of these evil doers are children and kids who are helpless, it's heartbreaking to see that most of the victims of these insecurities are helpless Nigerians who don't have a thousand naira to their name. I'm not saying that I would have been comfortable if it were happening to influential people, but then if it were them I'm sure the government wouldn't have been this silent about it.
In the state where I'm serving, just like an hour's journey from my own school, a school was attacked. That was over a month ago, and this evil doers kidnapped school children, some of these kids are about 3, 9, 10 years of age. Should a child be in the bush crying and trying to stay alive while experiencing all sorts of weathers and maltreatment or they should be at home enjoying the comfort of their little abode. Our politicians are out there shouting, clamoring and campaigning for a reelection while their citizens are suffering.
A retired army general was kidnapped recently together with his wife, the man lost his life some few days ago in the den of his abductors. You know what shocked me, the country isn't bothered. Like an army general and some group of terrorists have the effrontery to kidnap him.. omo🤦. Another shocking part is that his abductors drove down to hand over his dead body to his family members so they can bury him and they did all that without being apprehended, traced, and trailed.

Like, why is it even so difficult, why is it that this perpetrators of evil now seems to be stronger than a whole nation. Every single day a family cries, everyday a child loses his parent, everyday a community is under an attack and no one knows where it will be tomorrow. Is this life? Like are we really living? Is this how we are going to continue?
Silence I always say would do is no good. We've prayed and this is not even a matter of prayer anymore. It's time to take real action. One of which is to not keep mute. Every kidnapped child, father, mother, teacher is someone's son/daughter, parent, brother and sister. Nigeria can be great again, Nigeria can be better. And until we see real change, we shouldn't keep mute about this happenings.
