At Least A Week Of Heat Ahead

avatar

Today was the first hot day of the summer. The highest temperature of the day was 30 C. The rest of the Midsummer weekend is going to be hotter. The daily maximums well be between 31 C and 33 C on most days except for Tuesday when there will be thunder and rain with a daily maximum of 27 C and Wednesday when it will be 30 C.

The older I get the less I like this. The nights are the worst. We may have had air conditioning installed in the house if it hadn't been for the long-term forecast published in May according to which the summer wasn't going to be particularly warm.

The insects really don't seem to mind. If we open the windows at night, there will be plenty of mosquitoes flying in.

Here are some insects we have easier time being sympathetic to:

You need to install some mosquito nets on the windows! I could not manage sleeping well through the night in the summer if I couldn’t open the bedroom window.

We installed one in my daughter's room. My wife slept in her office downstairs. The problem is opening the small ventilation windows isn't enough.

Our dog has the best sleeping conditions in the basement level, a nice even 15 degrees 😄

Ah, that is the best. Should've bought a house with a basement. But otherwise we like this one very much. No issues whatsoever but a clearly lower price per sq.m than comparable ones. The garden is awesome. In Tampere, we may have been able to buy this but the mortgage may have caused me to sleep not so well well. In Helsinki, impossible.

You definitely need to install window protection to prevent insects from entering the room. For their part the beautiful flowers call out to meet the bees that feed on their sweet nectar.
