RE: Hive Punks: Edicted Drinkin' the Kool-Aid

You are viewing a single comment's thread:

Obviously something like HivePunks is just running on one node controlled by one entity at the moment

Wait, aren't they on hive-engine, which has witnesses and is technically decentralized?

I wouldn't say even HiveEngine is decentralized. Token creators can mute whoever they want and mint tokens whenever they want.

I can't say with any certainty how this works, but it seems like the punks are just sitting on a single server run by @blockheadgames

The punks are not on my server they are decentralized across all of the Hive Engine nodes.

Hive Engine nodes store picture files?

Perhaps I should learn more :)

No there is a data property pointing to ipfs (decentralized storage) that includes media assets, metadata, and transaction data.

Ah cmon you know I know what IPFS is.

Alright fine I will start my apology tour shortly.

Yes, the pictures are typically stored on a centralized way. Even IPFS it's not perfect, BUT...

No one cares where is the picture. What matters is the actual NFT. As in the non-fungible token, with the ID. If you have it, you have access to all the features built for the punks, or the exclusive communities, etc... Today Ethereum wallets containing crypto punks are receiving airdrops from new projects as they try to get some big users to use the project.

For example, BOTTO is an interesting NFT project, with art generated by an AI and sold on auction each week. They airdropped a big percentage of the initial supply to owners of some NFT collections, such as crypto punks.

What matters is the NFT. The rest is just design, to make you fomo on dumb jpegs.
